The Story Behind My Ring | Oh the Drama….

Hello beautiful people and welcome back to my blog! I just wanted to start this post off by saying how thankful I am for all of you who not only follow me on Instagram but also read my posts! Today, I wanted to share the whole story behind my ring and why it was oh so full of drama. Take a seat and grab a snack, this is going to be a long one….

Before I start, let me say that I am so appreciative of Lucas and the work he put into getting me a ring. It was not cheap and he worked really hard to be able to get me something so beautiful. I love the thought, care, and love behind my ring and I don’t want that to get lost here. With that being said, my ring was a hot mess from the start. It didn’t start that way, but it very quickly got to be one. If you follow my instagram stories, I am sure you have heard about this but I wanted to write a post about it explaining it all from start to finish.

Here it is, the original ring that I got proposed with. Isn’t it pretty? I was shocked when I saw it and with instantly in love with it. The color, the size, how dainty it was. It was perfect. I asked Lucas where he bought it and he told me he designed it personally at Kay Jewelers (the real villain in this story) and to be honest, I was a little disappointed. Disappointed because I had heard bad things about Kay in the past, and I didn’t want my ring to have issues. I still loved it and was so excited to be making these next steps with Lucas.

But (literally) in 24 hours, a stone fell out! I hadn’t even had it a day and a stone fell out from the halo setting and I was a little devastated. I had just gotten this beautiful ring and then suddenly it just felt…less. Lucas and I took it to Kay the next day just to be told that it would be three weeks before getting it back. What?! I just got it and now I had to be without it? I had to go back to school with my friends and have nothing to show for it. It was embarrassing explaining that yes, I had gotten engaged but no I didn’t have a ring because it had to be fixed already. I had no choice though so I sent it back and waiting for it to be repaired.

Flash forward about two months, everything was fine and dandy. I thought everything with my ring was good until one day I looked at it and noticed that a stone had fallen out. Again. I was mad, but not mad enough to run right out to Kay and drop it off for repair. I was just going to let it be until right before our engagement shoot and get it fixed. Then, within a week a SECOND diamond fell out. What?! Not one, but two stones were missing and at this point, I was fed up. I was frustrated and angry that Kay had sold a ring to Lucas that kept falling apart.

My mom, Lucas, and I went to the local Kay Jewelers store and demanded they fix it again. They offered to get me a whole new setting and put the center stone into the new setting but not before being rude and providing terrible customer service. They told me “there is no guarantee  with stones” and asked me how often I wore it. One of the employees even laughed at us when we said we wanted a whole refund.  I only agreed to it because they promised me that I wouldn’t lose another stone. They were wrong. I got the new setting after waiting two weeks for it to come in and within a week, a stone fell out. That was it. The last straw. I couldn’t go my whole life with a ring that was going to fall apart. Lucas and I returned the band and got a full refund for it. Kay Jewelers took the center stone out and put it on a basic band until Lucas and I could get a new one.

That leads us to here, with this new ring. I love it, I never want to take it off, and it was within our budget. Lucas and I went to a local, reputable jeweler and could not be happier with our experience. They were kind, understanding, and really disappointed that we had to go through so much to get to this point. Best part yet? We found something so similar to the original ring! This new one is just a smidge bigger but overall, its a pretty close match. To make things even better, I got it back within three days so I could actually fee engaged again. *swoon*

To be honest, I am sad that the first ring didn’t work out. It was the one that Lucas asked me to marry him with and now it’s gone. While this second ring is close, it just isn’t the same. I love this new ring and I love what it stands for. I know my engagement and relationship isn’t tied to a ring, but still, I loved that first ring. I don’t recommend getting your ring from Kay Jewelers. My experience was terrible and the customer was worse. Just don’t do it. I’m just happy that it all worked out in the end.

Shine on,

Maddy

Oh my gosh, I had no idea Kay Jeweler’s was that bad! Seriously, thank you for writing this! My heart sunk every time you wrote that a stone fell out. So glad you now have a ring! It looks perfect!!

The second ring is prettier anyway!! What a terrible experience, but at least this one will be better in the long run!
