You might be reading this and thinking, “Maddy WHAT?! You don’t want me to set a New Year’s resolution? But, aren’t you the one constantly nagging us about setting goals and dreaming big?” Well, yes, yes I am, thank you for remembering me in that way 😉 But let me explain a little bit more on why I think you need to dump your New Year’s resolutions in 2022….
My number one reason for telling you to dump your resolutions is because most times, they don’t work out like you want them too. And when they don’t, you are left feeling like a failure or like you can’t accomplish things that you set out to do. You and I both know that this is NOT TRUE! In this community, we are believers and knowers that we can accomplish anything we set our minds too, but IMO, New Year’s resolutions don’t always allow for this type of belief.
The other big reason why I think we need to dump our resolutions is because they are almost always surface level, right? We say them and set them thinking and knowing that it’s no big deal if they don’t happen. Yes, some of us set them and fully believe that they will happen, but if you are anything like me, you might say them just to say them which is pointless.
So instead of setting a New Year’s resolution, I want you to set one GOAL and commit yourself to it all year long! When you come up with your goal, I want you to set a deadline to get started on it (“started” is the key word there homie) and then do what you need to do to make it happen. Write that deadline on a post-it and hang it up, make a reminder in your phone, or jot it down in your digital planner. Whatever you do, make it, own it, and COMMIT to it!
