And I hope you’re loving the kind of refreshed vibe of the living in sunshine podcast that we had. In case you missed it back in September. We had a little refresh, we’ve got new intros and outros new content coming in. And I had been really enjoying it. And I hope that you have been as well. In today’s episode, my friends we are going to be talking about and I might get a little spicy, a little feisty, a little fiery if you would, when it’s time how do you know when it’s time to hire a coach. Now, coaching, in my opinion is something that has blown up this year, I feel like in 2022, the big thing to do was to in this is probably a little bit more relevant for people in the online business space, I still feel like it’s something that you would have seen if you were online at all on Instagram or Tiktok or anywhere you’ve probably seen this. But I feel like the thing to do in 2022 was to make a course. But the thing to do and 2023 is to offer coaching, right. And I’m not immune to this, I did the same thing. I released a course in 2022. And then in 2023, I was like I’m gonna offer coaching. But there are certain things that I have seen within the online coaching space that literally give me the IQ and make my skin crawl and are just giant red flags. And so I wanted to make an episode. From my honest point of view, as someone who identifies as a coach, coaching is not a huge, like thing that I do I have I have one on one clients that I do see, I have my community that I have, which is technically coaching. But as someone who is in this space, and is still relatively new, let’s just address that I’m very green, when it comes to the coaching space, there are things that I see that give me the edge that I wanted to sort of talk through with you in case you were someone who’s considering hiring a coach, right? Who’s considering working one on one with someone who is calling themselves an expert, calling themselves a coach, and really kind of talked through what I tell people when they come to me, and they want to book a clarity call or they want to work with me one on one. And because I think that there are people out there, unfortunately, as there always are in these, you know online spaces, where they will tell you oh yeah, you should hire a coach. Oh, you feel that way? Yeah, yeah, hiring a coach is going to be your magic solution, when that’s just not true, right? It’s just not true hiring coach is not the end all be all solution to whatever issues that you’re having. So let’s talk what are some ways to know when it’s time to hire a coach, right? The number one thing that I tell people when they come to me, and they’re like, I’m considering hiring a coach, I saw that you have Clarity Calls, I saw that you do this, can you help me? Is this a good idea? My number one thing that I encourage people to do, and to think about is to really pinpoint whether or not they have tried everything that they can find online, or they’ve been in a membership, or they’ve listened to a podcast, or they’ve taken the course, and they’re still stuck. And there’s good reason why I encourage people to go through all of these steps before investing in a coach because one on one coaching can be quite expensive can be quite pricey. And I have looked into one on one coaching before where they charge 1000s of dollars for monthly coaching. And I’m not here to price shame anyone but that’s a lot of money, when you might be able to find your answer or get to the solution that you need. Within a course that’s 200 or 300 bucks, or in a podcast episode that’s free or in a membership that’s 20 bucks a month, right? And I know that there are messages
out there that say, Oh, well, if you invest in a coach and you spend 1000s of dollars, you can skip spending all of that money and just get right to the answer with a coach. That’s not true. There is absolutely no guarantee that when you invest in a coach, they’re going to give you the right answer on the first try, there’s no guarantee, there’s no promise, they cannot promise you that. And if they are, my friend, my beautiful angel, you need to run away, run away, huge red flag, if any kind of coach is is promise you promising you, the end all be all solution, in one call in one hour or less, whatever it might be, you need to run away. Right. And the reason for this is because it’s just not the truth, there’s no way that one person no matter how experienced no matter how amazing no matter how many years doing it that they have, is going to fix all of your issues in one call. Because most often, and I’ve had this conversation with multiple of my own clients, most often the work isn’t over one, the call is over. And I say that with my coaching clients all the time I say to them, just so you know, we will do a whole lot of work in this hour. But there’s going to be work that needs to be done on your own after the call is over. Because there is right? Not all of the work is going to be done in an hour. And so I always encourage people if you are kind of considering coaching or hiring a coach, I want to encourage you to consider have I exhausted all of my other options? Have I joined this $20 A month membership? Have I found all the podcast episodes I can find? Have I watched the YouTube videos or read the blog posts? How much free content or cheaper content? Can I find on this certain thing that I’m wanting to work on? Before I invest hundreds or 1000s of dollars in a coach? And again, I know that there are probably coaches out there who would listen to me saying this and being like this girl is so dumb, like that’s terrible advice. They can keep that opinion. We’re all let our own opinions, right? Opinions are like assholes. We all have one, right? What a bad dad joke for so early in the morning. So that’s your first step, right? When you have exhausted all of your options, when you have taken the course or watch a YouTube video, whatever, and you’re still stuck. And you’re still like, I still don’t know how to do this, that’s when you maybe find a coach within that certain niche or area or area of business, whatever it might be with the expertise that you need. That’s when you hire that person. The next way that you will know whether or not it’s time to hire a coach is when you know that you have very specific goals or breakthroughs that you want to have. And you are ready to talk about those things clearly with another person. Okay, and I always welcome like, random streams of consciousness during my coaching calls. So because sometimes we have the ideas in our brain, but we’re not sure how to how to vocalize them out loud quite yet they make sense to us, but we’re not sure if they’re gonna make sense to other people. And so we get a little bit nervous when someone’s like, tell me all about your life dreams, and you’re like I that makes me want to pee my pants, but I will try. So maybe it’s not. So totally like a conscious, you know, maybe it’s just random babblings. And you’re just like, I don’t know if that makes any sense. But that’s what’s in my head, if you’re at that point when it comes to a certain goal, or breakthrough that you want to have. But again, you’ve exhausted all of your options of all of the content or support that you can consume from a person before investing in them as a coach. That’s when you know, it’s time to talk to a coach, because coaches good coaches, in my opinion, are able to listen and are able to regurgitate what you just said, in a more clear, concise way to where when they say it back to you. You’re like, yes, that’s exactly what I meant. Thank God I talked to you. And that is another sign that you are ready to hire a coach when you have those specific goals in mind. When you know how to clearly articulate those goals to someone else, if maybe not 100% Clearly, but you have the the general ideas that you can, like, you know, verbalize to another human, at least in a way to where they are going to be able to understand. That’s when you know that it’s time to hire a coach because again, a coach is a listener. When you hire a coach, you are hiring someone to listen to you. Listen to what you say, process it and regurgitate it back to you. And then ask specific questions that then get your brain working on the next thing that you need to do right the next step to take the next goal to set the next person to talk to you the next thing to learn. That’s what a good coach does. And if your coach isn’t listening to you, run away. That’s another red flag. Okay, your coaches should be listening to you. You’re
Coach should be asking you to talk first. And then they talk second, if you ever go to a coaching session and you feel like you did not talk, then that’s a problem, that coach should be listening first and talking second. And then finally, the way that you know that it’s time to hire a coach over, let’s say, a course, or a membership, or a podcast episode is that you are wanting, or you are feeling the need for someone’s undivided attention and support. Now, in the coaching industry, there are so many different variations, so many different formats, so many different offerings, with one on one coaching. I know for my own one on one coaching, the way that I do it is I have one on one Clarity Calls, they are a zoom call between you and me. And we chat during these calls. If you have any questions before or after, we can kind of chat through them briefly. But really, the thick of our coaching is during that call. And during that call, you get my undivided attention, my undivided support, and energy and creative thinking and all of these different things. And that’s why people hire a coach for that undivided time for that undivided attention and undivided support because they know or they want someone to listen to them, and someone to sit down and talk to them and be like, Okay, here’s what I’m working on. Here’s what I’m wanting to get done. Here’s where I’m wanting to go. Can you help me map that out? Can you help me figure that out? Can you point me in the right direction? Can you just listen to me talk about this, because I don’t have anyone to talk to you. Because I don’t have anyone who’s gonna listen to me because my my husband doesn’t get it. My mom doesn’t support it, I work in this corporate job that I hate it. But I really want to make this thing happen. Because my nutrition sucks. And I’ve tried all the doctors or whatever. No one’s working. So now I’m here, right? So if you are someone who you know that you have, you have exhausted all of your options, you know what specific goals or breakthroughs you’re wanting to get to, and you’re ready to talk about them with someone else. And you are someone who is wanting somebody else’s undivided attention and you’re willing to pay for them to listen to you. That’s when you know you’re ready for a coach. But if you don’t have these three things, if you don’t, if you haven’t already considered these three things, then in my honest opinion, someone who genuinely cares about you and wants to make sure that you’re spending your money in the right way. Because coaching is an investment, almost always, then it’s not time for you to hire a coach, right? It’s also not time for you to hire a coach, if you’re wanting to talk to them about your mental health. That’s something for our mental health professional, right? It’s also not your time to hire a coach, if you are having medical issues, that’s when you go to a doctor, right? It’s also not time to go to a coach, if you’re wanting to do anything really health related personal trainer, doctor, nutritionist, all of those things, right? Mental health professional, you have to know before you hire a coach, what you get when you hire that person. And another thing that I want you to keep in mind, as you’re considering the slew of coaches out there are now because everyone’s calling themselves a coach. If you’re listening to yourself and your coach, this is not me calling me calling you out. This is me just addressing the fact that there’s a lot of us right now, you need to look into that person and say, Is this the right person? For me? What kind of level of support do they offer? Are they within my budget? What practices do they have? What resources what reviews or testimonials do they have? What are other people saying about this person before you give them your money, because unfortunately, just like in any industry in any niche in any part of life, there are bad apples out there. I once personally went to someone who I follow she has a very large following on Instagram, I’m not going to name names because that’s, you know, not very doesn’t have very much integrity behind it. But she had a one on one call that you could do before you started coaching with her. And I got on this call expecting to see her. And I saw someone on her team, a guy first and foremost, which really threw me off because I was like you tote about being a female brand. And now you’re making me sit here with some guy who I don’t want to talk to you. And there were just a lot of things about it that really threw me off. They were asking me for all of this money. When I told him that that was out of my budget, they told me I should take out a credit card limit to be able to pay for it. And I was like this is this is insane. So even if you’re at the point where you’re looking to hire a coach, and you’re going through that process of finding someone to work with on a one on one level, just keep your radars up, right. Use your best intuition, use your best guess, follow your gut, and make sure that the person that you’re giving your money too is someone who genuinely has your best interests at heart and not their own. Okay? Because again, that’s something that happens a lot in this industry where people unfortunately, get caught up in the money and the dollar signs and they stop focusing on the people and they start focusing on the profit. And then that’s where we get in a little bit of a gray space and muddy space. And I want to make sure that if you are at this point in your life, or your business or your health where you’re considering hiring a coach, you have all of these things in mind
Okay, and if you are someone and you are looking to hire a coach, and you’ve heard me talk about Clarity Calls a few times now in this episode, I’ll link that form down in the show notes. A clarity call with me is a one hour zoom session where you bring two to three specific questions that you want to talk about with me, this could be a creative direction, it could be marketing, it could be email, it could be business, it could be mindset, it could be launching something new, you can do that I have a form that you can fill out via the link in the show notes. I also have it always linked over in my Instagram bio, if you want to check it out. It has all of the things laid out for you to consider before scheduling a call. And before you book a call with me, because there are specific things that I asked my coaching clients to sort of abide by before booking with me. And if you are curious in that, you can find that link down below. And if you have any questions on whether or not it’s a good fit for you send me a message on Instagram. Let’s chat about it. And that is everything that I have for you today. How to know when it’s time to hire a coach. I hope that this has given you kind of a compass or a roadmap to follow in terms of hiring on in this way, whether it’s for your personal life, your mindset, or your business, coaching and investing in a coach is a huge investment, it’s a huge thing to do. And I always want to make sure that you have all the tools and the resources that you need to get the right kind of support that you’re looking for. Without getting burned or dealing with icky people who really aren’t in it for you. They’re really in it for themselves. Until next week, my friends, I am sending you all the sunshine, good vibes, and I hope you make it a great day girlfriend.
