Episode 50: [HYPEGIRL CHAT] Listen to this if you HATE Your Job!

How many times have you thought about quitting your job? What about telling your boss off and throwing your phone into a marble fountain just like Ann Hathaway does in The Devil Wears Prada circa 2006? If you have been here, ME TOO! Look, I get it, we all have jobs that we hate either right now or in the past and I have been in the spot before where all I can think about is quitting my job and chasing my dreams full-time.

If you are one of these people and are looking for an out at your job, listen to this fresh perspective on how you can gain resilience and peace while working at a job you hate. This mindset shift is not meant to brush your struggles under the rug and pretend like they aren’t there. Instead, I want to give you a new frame of mind to consider in order to help you continue to show up for your job without letting it drain you every time you clock in.

Okay, so I’m hearing a lot nowadays about this thing called the Great resignation. And if you don’t know what this is, it’s a huge movement that’s really been happening since early of 2021, where people mostly millennials, are literally up and resigning at their jobs. And they’re doing this for a multitude of reasons at multiple different types of jobs. And you guys, I actually became part of the great resignation last October when I literally up and quit my teaching job after only three months of working it. And if you miss that whole saga, I took this full time teaching job as an online virtual teacher for a local public school, I ended up hating it. I’m not liking it at all. And I quit literally after three months of doing it because I was so miserable. And that was just not how I wanted to live my life. And that’s what a lot of people are doing today. They’re leaving their jobs. But that is not what we’re here to talk about today. Because if you want to quit your job, that’s entirely up to you. I have had many jobs I have wanted to quit, leave and never look back at. And that’s totally normal. That happens to so many people. But that’s not what I want to talk about today. In today’s episode, I want to offer you a fresh perspective on hating your job. If you are someone who’s currently wanting to chase a dream or maybe take a side hustle and turn it into your full time hustle, I want to offer you this new perspective not to dust any of the like true work related issues under the rug or to make your crappy situation at work less crappy. You guys I don’t share this perspective to toe toxic positivity or anything like that. But I just want to give you a fresh perspective and things to think about if you are wanting to leave your job. And the reason I’m sharing this today in today’s HIePRO chat is to hopefully give you some peace and resilience if you have a job that you hate, but you can’t quite leave it just yet. Right. You’re stuck in a job you hate it you’re maybe looking for another job, but you’re not in a situation where you can just up and quit right because I have been where you are before and just sort of give you a little bit of a backstory and when I you know have actually been there Are you guys. So there was a period of my life that and without going too far into it, when I was working in retail, as a retail manager, there was like a good six months where I hated my job. I resented it. And I like literally didn’t want to go to work. Because the hours were long, I didn’t feel like it was fulfilling my needs. I didn’t feel like it was what I wanted to do. It didn’t feel something that I was passionate about, right. I just didn’t want to be there. Right. I just didn’t want to do it. I hated the commute. I hated being away from family. And I love the people I worked with, it had nothing to do with the people that I work with, because I truly still to this day, to almost three years after leaving still love the people that I worked with, I just hated the work, I just didn’t want to go. But I also couldn’t afford to leave, I had bills to pay, I had a life that needed money to be able to live the way that I wanted. And not to mention, I would have felt really terrible if I left Lucas picking up the tab all the time, because I still feel bad for needing to do that for a short period of time, four years later. But the thing that got me through that period of time, when I really hated my job was remembering this, okay, and this is what I want you to listen to, if you currently hate your job, I kept reminding myself, this job is providing me with the life that I have the financial stability that I have, and someone else out there would probably love to have my job and the income that my job produces. I need to be grateful, instead of resentful for my job, because it’s allowing me to chase other dreams in the background. And once those dreams and passions become legit, I can leave this job. That’s literally it you guys, this is the reminder that I would give myself and tell myself when I wanted to quit, I would remind myself of what my job was giving me versus what it prevented me from doing. Because that only seemed to ground me in gratitude and joy over and over again. And once I reminded myself and remember that this job didn’t have to be forever, I always felt a little bit better driving into work and driving home from work because for many of us, this is the truth of our jobs. They aren’t forever, we don’t have to keep doing them. Because one day our passions will become what we want to do full time if that’s something that we want to do, right. And we will be able to look back on the job that we quote unquote hated with gratitude and pride, gratitude for what it gave us a pride that we stuck it out until we were able to move on to something bigger and better. And something that provided us with joy and passion. And here’s another piece of advice that I always told myself and something that I want you to hear as well. You never have to stay at a job that you hate period, full stop, you are not stuck at that job, you are not a tree, you can always move away from a spot that is not serving you. It might not be right away. It might not be in two months, it might not be in a year. But you can know and I am reminding you that you are never stuck at a job that you hate. If it is truly draining, you have all of your joy and happiness, you’re not stuck, you can leave you can find something else. And a world that we live in today. You guys, there’s always more out there, you can make money doing the most obscure things. So remind yourself of that. I’m not stuck at this job. If I truly hate it so much I can leave, I can take the action that I need to take to eventually leave this job. But if you are someone who currently hate your job, and you have something that you’re working on in the wee hours of the morning, or into the wee hours of night, when you get home from work, take this reminder with you the reminder that you can get more from your job, and your job is giving you something good. Even if it’s just a paycheck, you guys, if you’re only working your job for a paycheck, there’s nothing wrong with that. But when you practice the gratitude towards that, and you remind yourself to seek gratitude, over grumbling about the job that you have, you will be able to then focus on energy in a positive way during your job and have more positive energy towards your side hustle once you eventually get to make it your full time thing. And if you truly can’t see past how much your job drains you is burning you out or sucks the life out of you know that you can trust yourself enough to make the right decision, whatever that might be for yourself and your family. Jobs are not forever, and neither is your life. You deserve to spend your time doing something that lifts you up, support you and makes you obsessed with the life that you get to live. Remember that and hear me on this not telling you to quit your job. So don’t go out and do something rash, and blame me. But take this advice with you today. If you hate your job, remind yourself what does this job provide me? Where can I go from here? What actions can I take today or this weekend or after work to get myself to a job that I love and a life that I’m obsessed with? it and that is everything I have for you always like normal or hype girl chats short, sweet and to the point to get that fire lit under your butt so you can start to make the action and take the steps that you need to take to live your life fully in the sunshine.
