Alright, so all month long, we have been talking about work life balance, what to do, if you hate your job, what to do if you have multiple passions and everything in between. In today’s episode, I am going to be giving you some of my best productivity strategies to help you be better at balancing your work and your life while still achieving your goals. Some of these things you have heard before, some of them you have not. But my hope is that you can take at least one of these things away with you today, implement them in your life and see a positive impact from them. Now one thing to remember you guys is that these are not a one and done strategy, you have to take your time, first and foremost. And secondly, do these things and make them a habit and a routine to see the full impact. So don’t try one of these things one time and then tell me that it never works. Because if you do that, I’m going to put my hands you know, metaphorically on your shoulders, turn you around and send you back to your office to continue to try to work these things and make them happen for yourself. Okay. They’re not a one and done thing. So the first thing that I wanted to share with you guys today is something that seems so small and so trivial, but seriously makes all the difference and something that not enough people do. And that is only focusing on one task at a time. Like one thing at a time. Stop multitasking, multitasking is a great way for you to blow up your productivity levels create work that is not as high in quality and quantity potentially that it could be and just burn yourself at so much faster. For the longest time growing up. And even still today. You hear all the time about multitasking you doing all of these things and getting more done. And I’m a really great multitasker. I think it’s a load of crap, you guys, I really do. I really do believe that multitasking is the thing that is preventing so many of us from getting more done. Because what that does is it divides our attention. And we have less attention on the things that we’re doing all at the same time, which means they’re not getting done as well as honestly as quickly as they couldn’t be if we just did things one at a time. Okay, so if you’re someone who says, Oh my gosh, I’m really great at multitasking. I’m going to encourage you to stop multitasking and start focusing your energy on one thing at a time. Okay? So if you are someone who maybe has a TPT store, and you have a different business that you run and you’re trying to write a book, like stop trying to create resources for your TPT store while also writing your book on this Same page, like that’s not going to work. When you give your undivided attention to one task at a time, you’re going to one, do it better and make better quality. And two, you’re going to get it done faster, because you’re not dividing your time across multiple things. So tip number one for you to get more done. And to be more productive, is to only focus on one thing at a time, stop multitasking, it’s actually ruining your productivity. The second tip is something that I have shared before on Instagram and something I 100% wanted to make sure I have shared on the podcast. And that is designating certain tasks or like things to do to certain days of the week. And a really great example of this to give you guys from my personal life is I only ever do my bookkeeping, on Fridays, and I do it every single Friday. So in my organizational system, which I’m going to talk about here shortly, is every single Friday, I have scheduled out half an hour to do my business bookkeeping, because what that does, is it one allows me to make sure that I keep up with it. Because if you’re a business owner, you probably know how annoying bookkeeping is if you don’t do it consistently. So it allows me and reminds me to do it consistently. But the other reason why I like to have this task on Fridays, or at least designated to a certain day I could do it whenever I wanted is then it allows me to know that on Fridays, I’m designating this type of energy, this type of brain time right brain energy to this task. And I only have to do that on Fridays. It’s kind of similar to what I’ve talked about before of designating high energy tasks to Monday to Wednesday, and then low energy tasks Thursday to Friday. It’s kind of similar to that but being more specific. So another example is Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, I spend working on my TPT store, because I have a TPT shop right teachers pay teacher’s so Monday to Wednesday are the only three days that I work on TPT. Now, if I have additional time, Thursday, Friday, or Sunday to work on TPT, I might do that. But I designate certain tasks on my to do list to certain days of the week to sort of mentally prepare to do those things. If you’re following my train of thought. The other thing that this does is it allows me to sort of designate certain tasks that I might not love. I eat bookkeeping to one day a week, so that way I can get it done. And I don’t have to think about it again, right. So if you have something in your business, maybe it is balancing a checkbook or maybe doing your laundry, or maybe I don’t know, making calls or sending emails of songs or whatever it might be for you and your life designated to one day out of the week. So that way, you know, okay, we’re gonna get this done on Wednesday, don’t have to think about it again for another week. And then it’s done and off of your to do list for another week. My third tip that I wanted to share with you today that really do help my overall productivity levels and creativity levels to make them go up is implementing routines that support my overall well being not just like my business well being but like me as a human wellbeing. And some of the different things that I do that sort of incorporate my routines that I have to support my well being are not having my phone in my bedroom. This is something that I started doing last summer and I have talked about it before both on stories and on the podcast. But I no longer bring my phone into my bedroom. And I no longer sleep with it next to my bed, I actually have it plugged in. In my office, I bought myself an old school like digital alarm clock that I use to wake myself up in the morning. And it has done all the difference for my sleeping patterns. And I just sleep so much better when I don’t have my phone because it eliminates that distraction, it gets rid of that abrupt wake up alarm that like an iPhone has. And I just feel so much better knowing that I don’t have that distraction so close to me while I’m trying to go to bed. Another thing that I do another routine that I have to support my overall well being is working out in the morning, you guys at least six days a week, sometimes five if I might not feel it on the weekends. But I try to work out in the morning. And the in the morning part is the key point here because I find that when I get my day started with intentional movement and exercise, I usually work out about 30 minutes, right at home in my little home gym space that I have. I find that I’m way more productive throughout the day. I’m more alert. I’m more creative, and I just feel good. Like to the point where when I don’t work out in the morning. I feel slow. And I know that that sounds weird. Like that doesn’t really make sense when I say it out loud. But I just feel like I’m moving at like a snail’s pace throughout the day. Versus when I get my workout in. I put my sports bra on I pull on my leggings I tell myself to just shut up and get out of bed and I go push play literally I feel so much better. And finally the last routine that I have recently implemented since about Christmas time that really does help my overall well being is reading before bed and Lucas got me my husband Lucas got me a Kindle for Christmas. And you guys, and I’ve already read close to 10 books this year, which is the most I’ve ever read in years. And I love reading before bed because it helps me to wind down, it helps me to relax, it helps sort of turn my brain off, and I read until I’m sleepy and then I just put my Kindle down and I go to sleep. And it’s another way that I am eliminating those distractions and those stimuli that you get from maybe being on Tik Tok or Instagram. And it just helps me sleep so much better, and wake up feeling so much more rejuvenated, refreshed and ready for a new day. So I know that was a long one. But Tip number three is implementing routines and habits that support my overall well being. So take that one, take any of those little routines. If you have questions on them, you want to know more about them, feel free to shoot me a message over on Instagram. But implementing those routines have really helped me to feel better get more done throughout the day and just feel more productive. Okay, tip number four, which is also our last tip of the day is using different tools to stay organized. So this is something that’s relatively new to me within probably the last six months. But I used to only live out of my digital planner, which is one of my favorite ways to stay organized. You if you follow me on Instagram, if you know me from the podcast, you know that I love digital planning, it’s a huge thing of mine that I like to do. And that’s still something that I use to this day. But it’s not the only thing that I use now to stay super organized. And to make sure that I’m getting all of those little things done that I need to get done. I use my digital planner as a daily planner, so on a day to day level, and we’re kind of gonna go reverse funnel with this, right, so getting bigger as we go down the list. But I use my digital planner to help me stay organized day today. So every single morning, I sit down, I jot down what I want to get done, I time block my day, all that good stuff. I use that at a daily level. And I like using my digital planner on a daily scale because it helps me to make sure that I’m getting all of those minut tasks that need to get done day today without having to get confused or overwhelmed by all of the other things that need to get done in the bigger picture of my life. Now taking a step out taking sort of a wider view of what I use is I have these monthly wall calendars that I use to plan out my content, plan out my releases, plan out the podcast, all of that kind of good stuff. And if you watch my Instagram Stories, you can actually more often than not see them behind me. And they’re just these whiteboard calendars, I only have three of them, I don’t need more than that, or else it becomes super overwhelming. And I use them to sort of look at my content month to month to see where I’m going and to see what I need to plan for. So again, I have my digital planner for daily planning, and these monthly wall calendars for monthly planning at a larger view. And then going even further out of our funnel, our mental visual funnel that we might be making it our brain is I use an organizational tool called Asana, A S A N A Asana to keep myself really organized when I think big picture. So currently in my life, I have a virtual assistant business. I have an Etsy store TPT store, I have courses I’m releasing, I have emails that I send, I have a whole bunch of stuff going on. And Asana is my surefire way to keep all of my different projects moving forward. And I love Asana because it allows me to see things on a monthly view or even a further out view to see where things need to get done. And where I need to be focusing my attention. So differentiating my organizational tools has made a really big impact on my overall productivity levels, because it allows me to see all of the things that I need to get done in a more digestible, less overwhelming way, if that makes sense. So if you currently only have one way of keeping yourself organized, and you still feel really overwhelmed, I encourage you to try different systems and try different resources that are out there to organize yourself in a new way to hopefully bring down that level of overwhelm that you have while looking at your To Do lists. And those are some of my top four tips as to how I am more productive in my life and how I work to balance my multiple passions, my multiple projects and my life, right because we want to be able to enjoy life while also achieving our goals. So definitely let me know. So definitely let me know which one resonates with you the most. If you have one that you’re going to try out shoot me a message over on Instagram and tell me which one you’re going to try because I hope that you do take one of these home with you today and you try them out and they make a positive impact on your life my friend.
