In today’s episode I am explaining to you what joy looks like to me and why you need to be a joy seeker RIGHT NOW. Joy is such a foundational part of who I am as a person and is something I hope you one day root yourself in every single day. Ready to become a joy seeker? Let’s do it together girl!

I am so grateful that you are here today tuning in and catching a brand new episode. And for the month of June, we are going to be exploring the topic of pursuing joy. And not just pursuing joy, but purposely pursuing joy every single day. And really just all the time over on Instagram and DMS and stories and all of that good stuff. So this month, all month long, we are going to be talking about purposely pursuing joy, and teaching you how you can live a more joyful life, right? Because that is something that I know that I want. And I know that many other people want as well. So I hope you’re excited to dive into this topic. I know I am. I have a lot of really great episodes for you guys this month. Let’s go ahead and jump into our first episode of June, which is why you need to become a joy seeker like yesterday. Okay, so before we can talk about why you need to become a joy seeker, we need to figure out what that even means what is a joy seeker, and to me there is a very specific kind of person that falls into this category. Maybe you hear the term Joy seeker and you hear or you kind of imagine or picture someone else. But here’s what my definition is of this. So a joy seeker, in my opinion, is someone who intentionally seeks out joy throughout their day, someone who wants to find joy in the small things, or who looks for joy in the small things, and also someone who wants to spread joy to other people in their life. Now, if you’ve followed me long enough over on Instagram, or you’ve listened to enough podcast episodes, you guys know that this is a foundational pillar of who I am as a human. I am someone who has preached and taught and taught and offered tips and strategies and all these different things to help you become a joy seeker. And to me someone who is a joy seeker is someone who recognizes the hard parts of life, right? I never want to say to just brush the hard stuff under the rug. That’s not who I am. And that’s not how you live a life. But someone who who observes the hard parts of life and tries to learn from them and see the positive in those situation. And also tries to not dwell on the hard parts of life. Because I know in my life and I’m sure you know in your life, and honestly, if you watch the news every single day of the week, you know that life is really hard. And there’s a lot of hard topics and hard situations and hard seasons, and hard things that we have to go through and deal with in life. But just because we have these these struggles in life, that doesn’t mean that we can’t also seek joy, while going through those hard seasons, right? Because we don’t always have a beautiful, wonderful rainbows, butterflies, unicorns, and like, you know, pooping out sparkles in our day, every single day. That’s just not how it is. Even today, you guys that I’m recording this podcast, my computer is slowly dying, and I’m probably going to have to go and get a brand new laptop and drop a couple $1,000 Because my laptop is my entire life. And today’s been a really stressful day. But that doesn’t mean I’m going to let this stressful morning, ruin the rest of my day, or ruin the rest of my week, right? That is what a joy seeker is. That’s what a joy seeker does. They are someone who recognizes the hard parts of their life, whether it’s a hard five minutes with their kid, or a hard year long season, like I personally had last year, they don’t let those hard moments, those hard seasons, hold them back from seeking joy, or practicing gratitude or being happy or laughing at all of the stuff that’s just hitting the fan. You know what I mean? And this is something that I have really started to actively pursue every single day over the last couple of years. And since doing this since really working on my mindset, doing things like listening to daily personal development, filling my cup with with gratitude and affirmations on the daily, you guys, since I’ve really rooted myself in this place of joy, every single day, I recognize and I see in myself that I am happier, I’m more fulfilled, and I’m more grounded than I’ve ever been in my whole life. But how do you do this? Right? What can you actively do? To become a joy seeker, I’ve already given you a few ideas. And I’ve already talked about some of these things in the past, daily gratitude should be a non negotiable in your life, okay? And I’m not here to be perfect. I’m not here to tell you that I’m perfect. There are days you guys I don’t practice gratitude. And there are weeks that I go all day, all week long without practicing gratitude. But you know what I noticed when I take a step back, I noticed that my attitude isn’t where it used to be, or my mindset isn’t where I want it to be. Or I find that I’m hanging on and I’m dwelling on the hard stuff longer than I normally do. And it’s because I’m not practicing gratitude. So practicing gratitude every single day is a very easy way to route yourself in a space of joy before you even kick off your day. The second thing that you can do to become a joy seeker today is getting outside. Again, I get it. I live in a very hot climate. I literally live in the desert of El Paso, Texas. And it’s beautiful here like six out of seven days a week, you guys it is always sunny, always nice, always beautiful. Maybe you don’t live in the same kind of environment. Still try to get outside, even if it’s for five minutes over lunch. If you work in an office or a hospital or school, go outside for five minutes and just revel in being outside. Because I promise you being outside feeling the sun on your face will bring you so much joy that you didn’t already have. Or even if you don’t have the time during your week to get outside for a consistent block of time you guys do it on the weekends. My husband and I every single Saturday go for a really long walk. It’s usually like an hour or an hour and a half on Saturday mornings before we do anything else. And I genuinely look forward to that walk every single week. By the time Wednesday or Thursday rolls around. I’m like, Oh, I can’t wait for our walk on Saturday. Because I get to move my body in a way that I enjoy. I get to be outside in the beautiful environment that I live. And I get to spend time with someone that I love, who is my husband, and that is something that I do every single week that always brings me joy, okay. And the last thing that you can do really quick switch that you can do to become a joy seeker is actively pay attention to the small things in your life, and more specifically, the small things that bring you joy and reflect on them in the moment. So perfect example, say you’re a teacher and you’re out on recess duty or lunch duty and a student comes up to you and gives you those little white flowers. You know if you live in the Midwest, you know those little white flowers, I think they’re actually technically a weed. But those little white flowers that start to bloom during this time of year and your student gives that to you. That is a small moment of joy that you can reflect on your student was kind enough and aware enough and loving enough towards you to give you that flower. Again, it’s probably technically a weed, but it was still the thought that counts, right? Maybe you are going through the drive thru at Starbucks, and the person in front of you pays for your coffee. That’s another small moment of joy that you can reflect on, and allow to fill you up with joy. And the thing with joy. And the thing with being a joy seeker, is it’s very similar to practicing gratitude you guys, the more you do it, the more you seek out joy, the easier it becomes. And the more frequently you notice things that bring you joy. Okay. Another example for my personal life yesterday, it’s Sunday when I’m recording this. Yesterday was Saturday, Lucas, and I went for our walk in the mountains like we always do. And we were passing by this tree. And we noticed these two huge bumblebees. Okay, and this sounds so silly. And you’re like, why are she talking about bees on the podcast I’m getting there. We were walking down the sidewalk. And these two gigantic bumblebees like the size of a quarter huge fly by us. And then we follow them. And we look up in this tree that’s full of these beautiful yellow flowers. And we pause and we just kind of look up at this tree. And there’s hundreds of bees, hundreds of bumblebees in this tree, collecting the pollen and getting their honey doing their jobs. And it was just so cool to stop and reflect and live in that moment of listening to the buzzing of the bees. And again, small moment, right listening to bees buzzing around. Not a big part of my day was probably 30 seconds of my entire day. But since I sat and I reflected in that moment, and because I’m constantly looking for things that bring me joy, it’s something that I’m still thinking about today, over 24 hours later. And it’s those small things you guys, it’s it’s that small habit of looking for things that give you that feeling of joy, that make you a joy seeker that bring you more happiness that make you feel more fulfilled. And that will help you to stay more grounded in the good over the bad because like I said at the beginning of this episode, there’s a whole lot of hard stuff going on in the world right now. You’re probably going through a really hard season right now, I went through a really hard season all of last year 2021 was not my year. But I still actively pursued and sought out joy every single day because there is small moments of joy in your day. Even if it’s something as small as seeing two giant chunky bumblebees flying around on your walk, or a little kid bringing you a flower that they think is beautiful. That’s really just a weed. When you do this, when you actively tune in to the moments of joy that the universe or God or whoever you believe in whatever you believe in, right? Everyone believes in something different. That’s okay. When you slow down enough to tune into the moments of joy that life presents you, you become more apparent and aware of them happening throughout your day. And then when you do that, you become a joy seeker, which then I promise you will lead you to a life of fulfillment, happiness and groundedness, which we all need, okay. And this is why I need you to become a joy seeker, I need you to start being tuned in to these small moments of joy that the universe is giving to you because so much good comes when you do that. And when you become a true joy seeker, you find that the bad things in life really aren’t that that and that you can handle them a lot easier. And I know that that might be hard to believe right now in this moment, because you’re maybe going through a tough season, a divorce a loss, you lost your job, maybe you don’t know what you want to do with your life, maybe you’re just feeling a little bit like you’re floating out in the middle of the ocean. When you are a true joy seeker, you will be able to fully recognize that those bad situations might be pretty tough, and that’s okay to recognize that, but they aren’t as bad as you might be thinking that they are. And you will also be able to realize that you can handle them way easier than you initially thought. Okay, so try out those small tips that I gave you practice gratitude, take a second to reflect and revel in those moments of joy that the universe brings you and actively start to tune in to those moments of joy that you have throughout your day. Let them fill you up. Let those good emotions run wild in your mind and in your body. And just watch the impact that it has on your life.
