Five new intentional ways that I am increasing my productivity so that you can steal these hacks and use them in your life as well. Before we dive into these tips, though, I do want to remind you to sign up for the monthly sunshine newsletter list. This is my monthly newsletter list where I send out actually it’s no longer a monthly newsletter list. It’s a bi weekly newsletter list. I feel like I need to like give it a new name because I used to call it the monthly sunshine newsletter. It’s no longer only monthly. So what it is, is a email newsletter subscription if you would from me, we’re on the first Sunday of the month, I send you a full on full scope newsletter of all the things happening in the living in sunshine space, from new podcasts episodes, new membership opportunities, courses, master classes, discounts, new products, new resources, and just general like love notes from me to you go out on the first Sunday of every single month. And then here recently, I have also started to send out a second email on the third Sunday of the month, called the sunshine short. And this email is a short little email from me, where I share tactical tangible tips that you can use in your life, maybe a mindset shift, things that I am loving or just things that I want you to think about and consider as we go into a new week. These emails are meant to serve you up a huge plate of joy and happiness as we go into a new week. And if you are wanting to sign up, they’re completely free. You can snag them now via the link in the show notes. Okay, my friend. Let’s go ahead and dive into today’s episode. I am so excited for today’s episode, because productivity and how to increase productivity is probably like the top five things that I get questions on. Because you guys see me over on Instagram, which if you’ve just discovered the show, and you’re curious how you can find me on Instagram. My handle is at living the letter N sunshine. I’m pretty sure you could also just search my name Maddy Frey and I would pop right up. But this is something that I get questions on a lot. Because as many of you know, I have the podcast, I have a membership, I have courses, I have a VA business, I kind of do a lot of different things, which require me to be on top of my productivity and to be a very productive person. And you guys are asking me all the time. What are you doing to be more productive? How can I be more productive? What do I need to do to boost my own productivity because I need to get things done. We’re all busy. We all have 50 million things to do throughout the day. Whether you are a work at home, you know, CEO of your own business, or you Are you a teacher who also has a side hustle, or you’re just a stay at home mom, and you just have little kids running around all day asking you to make them a snack and take them outside, right. So here are five new hacks, productivity strategies that I have been using to be more productive throughout the day. The first tip that I am going to give you might actually not be new to you. But it’s definitely new to me and something that I’ve been really leaning into as I am in a season of hustle and growth in my living in sunshine business. And this productivity strategy is called the Pomodoro strategy. I’m pretty sure that’s how you say it Pomodoro strategy. It is a productivity strategy. Again, it is not new, it was actually developed in like created I guess you would say back in the 80s by a university student who was studying for his Finals. In the way that this strategy works is you set a timer. You have a visual timer, maybe it’s on your phone, maybe it is a Google timer. Maybe you have like an individual timer that you can like sit on your desk and you are 25 on five minutes off. Okay, so you work for 25 minutes, you set your timer for 25 minutes and you haven’t focused productive work for that 25 minutes. Okay, and then after your 25 minutes As up, you have a five minute break. And you can use this break however you want, you can get on Instagram, you can go get more water, you can go to the bathroom, you can get up and stretch, whatever it might be. But it’s this cycling time strategy, where you’re on for 25 minutes, and then you’re off for five minutes 25 on five minutes off. Or if you need a longer break, you could do maybe like working for an hour and then do 15 minutes off. And then you just rinse and repeat. And I have been doing this frequently, probably almost every single day for the last few weeks now. And I noticed that I am being more productive. Because I know that a break is coming right, we sometimes get caught up in thinking oh my gosh, this is never ending, when is this going to be over, I have to do this thing. Or you can even be enjoying something and you just start to feel your brain starting to like shut off. If you don’t know, the average attention span for a human, an adult human is eight minutes before our brain starts to like get distracted. So this 25 minute interval is a great way for you to get a longer period of work done, while also knowing that you can shut your brain off, so to say for five minutes, and that five minutes is coming towards you. Tip number one, the Pomodoro strategy, I cannot recommend it enough, it is a great way for you to just really get some focused work done, or I don’t even know focused workout or focused something, whatever it might be for you, for you to get that done, be totally in tune and aligned and checked in plugged into that thing. While also knowing that you don’t need to pick up your phone, you don’t need to go to the bathroom, you don’t need to procrastinate because you’re going to get a break in after that 25 minutes is over. And you’re gonna have five minutes to just completely disconnect, take a break, and then get back to it. Okay, productivity Hack number two that I’m here to share with you today is something that I’ve actually mentioned on my Instagram stories before. But something that I felt deserved a shout out on the podcast as well. And this shout out goes to life at spaces, I will link them in the show notes for you guys. But life at is a online virtual working sort of platform, if you would, what it is, is digital computer backgrounds, where you can have like a coffee shop or an animation or nature or a window. And it is truly something that I have tapped into over the last few months to get out of the mundane and routine of just sitting at my desk. What life at spaces are our digital working spaces with computer backgrounds and timers and they even have like Spotify plugin. So if you have a working playlist that you really like to use, you can do that. It has to do lists, it has hundreds of different backgrounds. And the best part is, is it’s completely free, like you do not have to pay for it. And they have so many tools and resources built in to their digital working spaces that you can use to amp up your productivity just within the platform. And to be completely transparent. You guys, I learned about the Pomodoro strategy through like art spaces. It was something that like I was like, What is this, and I googled it and I was like, Oh, that totally makes sense. So if you are someone who works from home, or you are maybe working from a coffee shop, or you’re working just at your cubicle at work, and it’s just kind of like blah, and you feel yourself getting bored with your spaces, life at spaces have truly changed the game. I love to look at them, they really do help your productivity. And I think my favorite part about life at is they have audios so you can literally turn on an audio that sounds like a coffee shop. So if you work on your own if you work you know for yourself at home or you just work from home like I do, then you can turn on that audio and it kind of simulates being at a coffee shop which just for some reason for me like instantly makes me more productive. But life out is my second tip, my second productivity hack that you need to try this week. Okay, productivity Hack number three you guys is called the Sunday sit down. Now this is something that I maybe have mentioned before on the podcast, I feel as if I talked about it on stories but this is something that I again have been doing and using now for the last few weeks to get my ish together. Literally you guys what this is, is it is a 15 to 20 minutes, sit down with myself. You could do this with your family. You could do this with people that you work with. But what I do is I sit down and it’s my time to map out my week and I have 100% talked about on stories Instagram stories before about my calendars and asana and how I stay organized but this Sunday sit down is a designated 15 to 30 minutes depending on how crazy my week is where I just sit down and I map it all out. So any to do list any tasks that I need to get done any interviews that I have any podcasts work, blog, work, client work that I need to get done. I sit down on Sunday, and I put my phone away, I don’t watch Netflix, I don’t listen to music. And I just map it all out. And the reason this helps me stay productive, and it actually increases my productivity is because I can go into Monday, knowing where my head needs to be, and knowing where my attention needs to be each and every day. Now, this is not like scheduling out each and every day, hour by hour by hour. What this is, is designating certain tasks that I know I need to get done to certain days of the week. So like this week, for example, going into this week, I know that I need to do XYZ tasks for my virtual assistant clients, I know that I need to be prepping for the monthly sunshine newsletter. And I also know that I need to edit the podcast or else they’re not going to get up. So this Sunday, sit down is my way of sort of mapping out all of the things that I need to do to have a successful week and know that things are getting done. Sorry to interrupt the show my dudes, but I have something so exciting to share with you that I need to tell you right now. Are you ready? I am so excited to officially announce that starting in August of 2022. We are opening up and launching our first ever living in sunshine membership. Be sure to check out all the details in the show notes are over on Instagram. And I cannot wait to officially welcome you to the sunshine squad. Okay, so let’s go ahead and hop in to productivity Hack number four. So tip number four Hack number four is to take a daily walk outside. Now I know that you might be thinking but won’t this make me have to step away from work like won’t lower my productivity because I’ll have to go take a walk? Well, yes, you will have to step away from work to go on this walk by it, you will find that your productivity actually increases because what happens when we go outside is such a beautiful thing that we sometimes don’t even realize how beneficial going on a walk is. So first and foremost, you guys, I take these walks every single day and when I need them the most. So by that I mean when I go for my walk is generally decided on how I feel in the moment. So sometimes I take them in the morning if I’m feeling a little bit disjointed or distracted. Sometimes I take them at the end of the day once I’ve gotten everything done, and sometimes I take them like after dinner with my husband. And the reason these walks are a good idea is because they help you to more than anything else. Take a break from work, which we all need to be doing more of and to. They help get the blood flowing through our body, which actually boosts brain activity and helps us to be more focused and clear when we head back to our office or head back to our work right. These daily walks are so beneficial for so many reasons. I could do an entire podcast episode on the benefits of walking. But I always find that once I take my daily walk outside and you guys they don’t have to be long like sometimes I take like 25 minute walks. Sometimes I literally only have 10 minutes and that 10 minutes is exactly what I need to come back feeling as if I’ve done something good for my body. I have gotten outside which is wildly beneficial for us as well as people and I feel the blood rushing again through my body instead of sitting stagnant at my desk. typing away on my keyboard for hours and hours and hours. So this productivity hack is one of those ones that you might feel as if isn’t making you more productive. But the more you do it, the more consistently do it, you will start to realize how much more productive you are because you have these daily walks implemented in your routine, okay, and productivity Hack number five that I really want you to implement and encourage you to try out is called intentional whitespace. Now, whitespace is one of those things that you might have heard of before, or you might have heard me mentioned it before on my stories, but whitespace, you guys is time in your day, to literally do nothing. And again, this is very similar to going for a walk where you might be thinking, well, if I’m doing nothing, then nothing is getting done. And while that’s kind of true, it’s also not true. Because when you force yourself, and you force your brain to think think think work, work, work, create, create, create, go go go, you lose out on the time that your brain needs literally needs to rest, recover and recuperate from producing all of the stuff that you’re having it produced throughout the day, whether it’s decisions, ideas, new content, new work, whatever it might be intentional whitespace, you guys is a time in your day. And for me, it’s usually the afternoons where you just do nothing right in my do nothing seriously, genuinely looks like me laying on the floor of my office. In like I laugh because just imagining like Lucas or any of you coming into my office at like three o’clock in the afternoon, and just seeing me on the floor makes me crack up laughing. But that’s what my intentional whitespace looks like because I just need a time to step away from my desk, step away from my computer, and just do nothing. Okay, and you need that as well. You might not think that you need it, but you do. So I want to just give you some ideas as to what intentional whitespace might look like. So for you, it might look like laying on the floor in your office. It might also look like walking around your office complex. If you work in an office. Intentional whitespace might also look like calling your mom on your lunch break, it might look like transition time for you to go stretch your legs and get more water and get a snack. It could be really anything that allows you to disconnect from your workday and have some time away for you to rest, recover and recuperate. To then come back to your work with a second wind with a clear mind and ready to finish out your workday. And those are my five hacks you guys the Pomodoro strategy, using life at spaces, implementing a Sunday sit down, going on daily walks outside, and having intentional whitespace in your schedule. When you try out these five hacks, I promise you, I can almost guarantee you that even if you only choose one, you will notice that with time and consistency in doing it, you will be more productive. I can promise you because I’ve seen it in my own life. So take these hacks, try them out this week. And then send me a message over on Instagram and let me know what you thought. Let me know how they worked or how you maybe tried them and mix them up to fit your life a little bit better. And that is everything that I have for you today. My friends.
