All month long on the living in sunshine podcast in August, we are tackling the topic and conversation of mindset, and how to train our brains to live in a joyful mindset. Because it is one of those things that so many people come to me with questions or asking for strategies or tips or suggestions or how do I live in a mindset that, you know, I feel joy on the daily or whatever it might be for you. So I’m so excited to be talking about mindset all month long in August. So my friends, we are going to dive right into today’s episode today is a Hyperloop chat, which is arguably one of my favorite episodes to record. These Hyperloop chats are essentially the fire and gasoline under your butt for you to get out there go get to work, go do the action, take the action that you need to live a life that you love to work towards a goal that you have to go chase a dream that you’ve had on your heart for forever. It’s really that weekly hype that we all need from time to time to design the life that we’re obsessed with. And I love recording them. They are short, sweet and to the point. And I really hope that you guys love them as much as I do. And today’s hybrid chat, you guys is all about giving you a gut check, a gut check on the fact that you choose what you think about. Okay, I’m going to say that one more time, you choose what you think about. And I know that there are going to be people out there who listen to this who struggle with specific mental health differences or mental health struggles that they might have where sometimes it feels as if they don’t have that control, or that they’re lacking that control to control their thoughts and to choose what they think about. And if that is you, I completely see you and I honor this space that you are in. But for the majority of you listening, you need to hear this today. Okay, and you need to hear what I have to say about this whole topic. And if you are triggered or you feel as if you have been called out or you feel as if I am speaking directly to you. Those are all signs in my opinion that you need to hear this today. Okay, so let’s just talk about it. First and foremost, you choose what you think about right? And it is something that I find so fascinating. I remember a few years ago, I went to this seminar with a brain surgeon slash neuro surgeon researcher who was talking about how our brains are trained to trigger our emotions and trigger our thoughts to have certain responses, okay, and she had us do this activity, if you would, there’s another word for that I’m not thinking about in this moment. And she asked us to think about a time in which we were so angry or so frustrated or so annoyed with someone else. And I want you to take 30 seconds right now to pause this episode. And just think about the time or a time that you have been so angry or so frustrated or so annoyed and I want you to pause and I want you to do that right now. So I’m assuming you paused, I’m assuming you took that time. And I’m assuming right now you feel pretty ticked off, right. And just by thinking about that time that you are so upset, or so angry, you right now, in the moment feel upset or angry, you didn’t need that person to come and stand in front of you, or you didn’t need that situation to happen, again, for your brain to think about that experience, or that time in your life or that memory to be triggered to be put in that same emotional state. You see what I’m saying. So when we know that our brain can do this, and we know that we have the ability, our brains have the ability to trigger these emotions, we can be better in tune with what we think about and more in tune with where our emotions are being spent. Okay. And the reason I wanted to talk about this and the reason I wanted you to think about that moment where you were so angry or frustrated or annoyed, is because it is a direct indicator that what you choose to think about, will then determine how you feel. So let me make this a little bit more clear. If you aren’t choosing to think about all of the things that are stressing you out, or making you anxious or making you worried or uncomfortable. You’re going to, in return, feel anxious or worried or uncomfortable. Okay. And on the flip side, if you choose to focus your attention on the things that are good on the things that bring you joy on the things that make you grateful you’re going to feel those emotions in return. Now, this is not me saying to brush all of your hardships under the rug. That’s not how I roll. If you’ve listened to enough episodes, you know that if you’re new here, I always want to make sure that I make that very, very clear. I am never one to shy away from the hard ever. That’s just not how I That’s not how I live. That’s not how I do things in this space. That’s not what I encourage you to do. I want you to recognize those things that are hard and choose to think about them to help yourself, process them and move past them. But what I don’t want you to do is dwell on them. Because when we dwell on past situations, or experiences or memories, that bring us down that make us feel those negative emotions, just like we did at the beginning of this episode of anger, frustration or annoyance. We’re going to continue to feel that way. So let me give you another example. Maybe you’re the kind of person who is always very much the world is out to get me no one likes me. I’m the universe hates me things are always going to be hard for me. Well Newsflash, because you think that way, that’s how your life is going to be. I can promise you that. Your mindset, your heart set where you are choosing to set your focus is going to be what you experienced throughout your day because you’re training your brain to look for that stuff. But in reverse, if you choose to, yes, acknowledge that you had a bad day at work. But you’re also so grateful for your your partner or your roommate, your your mom, whoever, and that you’re grateful for the fact that you get to come home to a home that is clean and has food in it and that you know, is a safe environment for you to live in. Your brain is going to start to notice those good things more often. Okay. And again, I recognize that you might be in a season of hard. I have been there so many times. There have been times where I’ve hated my job and you’ve hated what I was doing. I was in a tough spot in my relationship. We, you know, have been in seasons of just purging money on our house, we’ve been through seasons of heart, I get that I have personally been in seasons of hard. But even in those seasons of hardship, of stress and anxiety, and worry, and panic attacks and all of that stuff, I still chose to focus on the good. I still chose to wake up every single day, do my daily gratitude, do my daily affirmations, and train my brain and focus my brain on the good. Why? Because I knew and I know now, and I hope that you take away from this podcast episode today that even if I continue to focus on the bad, my brain is going to continue to only see the bad because that’s what our brains do. They know what we think about and what we think about, we start to notice more. And it isn’t just a motion, you guys, it isn’t just how we feel or how we move throughout our day, is I’m sure you’ve had the experience where you are looking for a new car or you are you just bought a new top or you just saw an ad for a specific type of coffee or whatever it might be. And suddenly, because you had that exposure to it, you start to see that car or that top or that coffee everywhere you go, right? It’s the same thing. We choose what we think about. And when we choose what we think about we then choose to decide how we’re going to go throughout our day, both physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually, all of them combined. It all starts with what you choose to focus on and what you choose to think about that day in that moment. So this is your hype girl chat. This is your hype girl encouragement, reminder thing for you to do, I want you to choose to think about the good. Choose to think about the things that are going well, the things that are growing, the things that you are learning the new steps that you are taking towards your goals, the things that you are accomplishing over all of the stuff that’s going wrong, or all of the things that are hard, because I can tell you right now here honestly, truly transparently, I have a million things in my life that feel as if they’re not going right. But I have 1,000,001 things that are going right and they’re going really well. And I choose to focus on those things. Because what it does for my mindset is it routes it in a place of growth, gratitude, joy and obsession, every single day. Even if the day before I had a horrible day in the office. Even if the day before I had to drop 1000s of dollars on my house or on a dog or on a trip or whatever. I choose to see the good I choose to focus on the good or the bad because whatever you focus on is what you are going to feel throughout your day and you get to choose that it is a choice it is an option. It is what you can truly control in your life is what you think about. So today, choose wisely. Choose how you want to feel throughout your entire day and whatever you choose you stay in tune with how what you chose determines an end result in how you feel that day. Okay.
