Maddy 0:08 Welcome to the living in sunshine podcast if you don’t know who I am, my name is Maddy And I am so excited to have you tuning in to our weekly podcast episodes, where we chat all the things from tips and tricks to funny stories from my life that have helped me to truly live in the sunshine. In this space, we are all about encouraging, inspiring and giving you the tough love that you need to hear sometimes to realize that you are totally made for more than what you currently have in life, and that you hold the power to make the changes that you need to level up and live your best self. So buckle up, grab some water and let’s get into it. Good morning, my dudes. Happy Wednesday. Are you listening to this in the morning, if you are that is very, very appropriate. Because for today’s brand new episode, I am going to be sharing with you my morning routine and how you can implement one to this, my friends is something that I have shared over and over and over again on Instagram, which if you do not follow me, please go give me a follow up my handle is at living the letter N sunshine. So living in sunshine. And yet it is still something I get questions about. So I decided to create our last episode of September, which is all about habits and routines to be centered around this idea of a morning routine. And not just a morning routine, but my morning routine because of course I’m being selfish, and I’m making it all about me. But my hope is that you can take what I do each morning and implement it in your own life. Take it make it wait, what do I say take it, bake it and make it your own. When you forget your own catchphrase Hello, wake up, take it, fake it and make it your own in order to design and develop a morning routine that works for you. Now without further ado, let’s jump into my morning routine and how you can implement one as well. Now I feel like for the longest time morning routines were like super trendy. And that is that’s not why I’m sharing mine. I’m not trying I’m not sharing mine to like be trendy. I am sharing mine to give you some inspiration and maybe some hope that you can do this as well in your own life. I know for some people mornings are really, really challenging. They’re really busy. And sometimes morning routines can be like so convoluted and overcomplicated when they don’t need to be. That’s just not how I am and really anything that I do. I’m not a fan of overcomplicating things that do not need to be complicated because who has the time or mental energy not me. So here is my morning routine. Pretty much from start to finish. This has been my morning routine for most probably like most of 2022 my morning routine definitely fluctuates and changes based off of the season of life I am maybe if we are traveling, you know if I am you know doing something else doesn’t matter. It fluctuates but for the most part, this is what it is. So Thing Number one is I have been really trying to get back into the habit of waking up before the sun. And this is actually a little 21 day challenge that I did back in August and I have a Instagram story tracker that you can steal from my freebie library on my website as well. I’ll also link that in the description down below. But that is something that I really do. try to do is I try to get up between 545 Or like 615, maybe a little bit earlier, I have an old school alarm clock, if you know me, you know that I kicked my phone out of our bedroom. Like over a year ago at this point, I will never go back to having my phone in my bedroom. If you want to know more on that, send me a DM on Instagram, we can talk about it. But that is what I try to do, I try to get up between 515 and 530. And get out of bed by like 545 and 615. Like within that 30 minutes. I always try to like get my butt out of bed. Sometimes I do better than other days. That’s okay. But it’s something that I tried to do. And again, if you are someone who is trying to implement getting up earlier, I encourage you to steal that little Instagram tracker that I made. I posted about it on Instagram a ton in August. And it’s just a 21 day challenge to try and get up a little bit earlier. And if you use it, be sure to tag me so I can reshare it to my stories too. But that is Thing Number one, I try to get up nice and early, honestly earlier than I probably need to based off of my work and my lifestyle, all that kind of stuff. But I do try to get up very, very early because I find that I get more done. And I have more mental clarity when I do the next thing that I do immediately upon waking up is put on my workout clothes, I do not hang out in my pajamas for too long. And that is intentional. Because I have recognized within myself that if I like sit around in my pajamas, I do like my willingness and my motivation to push play on a workout dwindles so much. So I immediately get up, go to the bathroom and do my morning pee. If you don’t pee in the morning, you’re probably not hydrated enough. I’m just saying. So I get up I go to the bathroom, I pee I put my contacts in. And then I put my workout clothes on before I even go downstairs. Before I even leave my bedroom, I put my workout clothes on my body because once they’re on, it kind of gets me into the mindset of okay, rubbish. Like, you’re gonna go push play after you go make your pre workout, you’re gonna go push play on a workout, you’re gonna work out first thing this morning, you’re not going to dilly dally, you’re not going to fart around, you know, you’re gonna get to work, right? So I get dressed, I head downstairs, I make my pre workout. It’s the same pre workout that I’ve been taking for years. I love it. I think it’s really yummy. Doesn’t matter. That’s what I do, I get dressed and I make my pre workout. Once I have my drink in hand, I head back up into my office, and I sit down for my morning quiet time. Now, as someone who if you know me, or you follow me on Instagram, you know, I have easily like eight or nine different projects going on all at the same time across multiple businesses all the time, to where this quiet time is like the 15 minutes I truly have for myself with no distractions throughout my entire day. And so it’s really, really important that I do it. And my quiet time always looks something like this. I have my digital planner which I will link in the description down below as well I made it myself, you can find it in my Etsy shop, you can print it or use it digitally. So I pull out my planner which I use on my iPad, I do a brain dump of all of the things that I need to do that day I time block and tasks match my day. If you’re not sure what that is, send me a message on Instagram, we can chat. And then after I kind of organize myself and I get my planner all situated. I give myself like five to eight minutes to practice my daily gratitude, and write my affirmations. Now I’m not gonna lie, my affirmation writing has been lackluster to be kind to myself, I haven’t been writing them as frequently as I used to, but I still do try to write them like once or twice a week. It’s definitely a habit that I need to get back into. But I am a hardcore diehard, you know, person who practices gratitude every single day. And in the second episode from September, I explained to you why I do this. But this is kind of the next step in my morning routine is my quiet time where I check in to my digital planner, I brain dump all of the things I get all of the junk and things to do and ideas and thoughts out of my head and onto quote unquote paper. I mean, it’s my iPad, but you can you know, do it in a journal too. I get it all out, I practice my gratitude, I write my affirmations and then that’s that it’s literally 15 minutes max, sometimes 20 If I have more things that I need to get done that day. But that quiet time alone helps me to go into my morning and into the rest of my day. Knowing what I need to get done knowing where I need to focus my energy and knowing kind of a general timeline as to when these things are going to get done, which is what helps me to have a very structured day which I need to have in order to get all of the things done. Once I have my daily quiet time and I have had enough of my pre workout I’m feeling well are a bit more awake, I go get my workout done, I work out from home, I love my home workouts. I’ve been doing them for years. I then after my workout have breakfast, this is usually like my breakfast time is like honestly, probably my favorite part of the day because I am a stickler of not working while I eat. That is a hard boundary I implemented at the start of 2022. And it’s done wonders for my mindset, and my relationship with my work. But usually during breakfast, I watch a YouTube video. And I usually watch like Cara and Nate or Amon and back or I watch Good Mythical Morning. Like those are my three go to Channels. Sometimes I’ve watched James Charles, he’s kind of like a guilty pleasure of mine. But during my breakfast, I watch a YouTube video and just kind of like decompress from you know, I don’t know, the day before or whatever. And I get myself ready to like, get to work. And then the last step in my quote, unquote, morning routine, before I officially start to work is I turn on my diffuser, I have been using essential oils for like two, three years now. And I always find that when I turn my diffuser on, I am just in like the mindset, it’s just like a light switch for my brain to say, Okay, it’s time to get to work, let’s get focus, let’s sit down, let’s have a great morning, like, let’s be productive and have a great day. And that is kind of like the final trigger to my brain to say, Okay, we’re gonna sit down, we’re gonna get to work, it’s time to start focusing, put your phone away, and like, let’s get this stuff done. So we can feel good and successful at the end of the day. So that is step number six and my morning routine. So from the time I wake up between like 535 45. To turning on my diffuser, I normally try to sit down at my desk at 8am Mountain Time. And the reason for that is because I work as a virtual assistant, a lot of my clients are in Eastern time. So I technically get into the office, quote unquote, earlier than most people, maybe not like I guess general, people work eight to five. So I tried to have that same work schedule for myself. And that sort of sitting down at my desk to start my day is honestly like the end of my morning routine. So that’s really it. Nothing super complicated. Sometimes I throw in a shower, sometimes I decide to actually get ready, sometimes not. I am 100%, the type of girl who will like take a shower in the middle of the afternoon, or just not shower at all, because I am a haven and disgusting and I hate taking showers, I will easily go like two or three days. Taking a shower. I’m like really outing myself right now. But that’s just how I am. And when I do take a shower, it’s usually like at the end of the day, or in the middle of the afternoon. Or if I’m like really stinky, which happens, I will like make sure that I take it in the morning immediately after I workout. And before I make breakfast because again, it’s one of those things that I just know, if I don’t do it right away after my workout, it won’t get done. And that’s okay. Sometimes you just have to know yourself enough to know like, Okay, if this doesn’t happen, that’s not going to happen. And that needs to happen. Right? So that is my morning routine, right? Very simple. Nothing complicated. I’m not like doing any kind of like fish routine or anything crazy like that. It’s very straightforward. But it is what helps me to have really successful structured productive days and get a bunch of stuff done, which is oftentimes a question I get from you guys, is how do you do so much stuff? And you know, besides my, you know, half joke of a line, it’s because I don’t have kids, which is true. I truly believe that I get so much done because I don’t have kids. The second biggest reason I think I’m able to get so much done is because I have a structured morning routine that sets me up for success every single day of the week that I’m working. Now your question might be, how do I implement one myself, and again, because I’m not to overcomplicate stuff that doesn’t need to be overcomplicated, here’s three things that you can do, right? Number one, you need to know what you can sustainably do. So if you are someone who like, is the most creative person at three in the morning, then maybe waking up at 545 Every single day is not going to work for you because you need to get your sleep. So know what you can sustainably do. And do that over and over and over. If you are someone who has to be in the office by like, I don’t know, 4am Because you’re a doctor or something. Maybe eating breakfast and working out in the morning isn’t going to be you know, doable for you because you’re already at work. So you have to know what you can sustainably do. Don’t do things that you see me or other people online doing. Because you feel like you need to be doing them because other people are even though you know it’s not sustainable for you know what you can sustainably do and make that happen for yourself. Thing number two to implement a morning routine is to figure out what you want to incorporate into your routine. So do you want to incorporate a daily daily gratitude practice? Do you want to incorporate morning workouts? Do you want to incorporate time to get ready? What do you want to incorporate into your routine, you have to know what that is before you can actually make a morning routine. Because again, just because you see me writing daily gratitude and affirmations doesn’t mean that that’s something that you want to do. So if you try to force yourself to do something you don’t want to do purely because you you don’t listen to this episode. And you’re like, Oh, well, Matty does that I need to do that too. No, you do not. No, you do not my friend. There are people that I follow online, who their morning routine consists of like, an hour dedicated to like doing their hair and makeup. I do not want to do that. So I’m not going to try and implement that within my morning routine. Okay. And then the last tip for you to implementing a morning routine is to know what your goal is have your morning routine, right? Like, what’s the goal? What’s the point of your morning routine? For me? It is the goal of having super productive and structured days in the office when I’m working because I need to get that those things done, right. So my morning routine has been cultivated, and created in such a way that it allows me to achieve that goal more often than not. So you have to ask yourself, what is my goal of my morning routine? is my goal to I don’t know have time with my Bible is is your goal? To have more time for yourself? Is your goal to just get up early enough to have enough time to, you know, get to work on time, like what is your goal, you have to know what your goal is for your morning routine. I hope you know what I’m alluding to your morning routine, right? Because if you only have your morning routine, based off of what you see some cute girl on tick tock doing and it’s not working, then it’s not going to be successful and it’s not going to do anything good for you. Again, a morning routine should be something that benefits you and support you in some way. And I know that it is something that is frequently talked about online and in magazines and all these things like if you want to improve your life have a morning routine. So that’s why I wanted to share my morning routine with you. But also share those three tips that you can take away to hopefully implement a morning routine in your life that you actually like that actually support you and that actually brings you joy because if your morning routine or really any habit or routine doesn’t lead to those three things, then what’s the point? Right like why are we doing it if it doesn’t make us better bring us joy or or improve our life in some way. Right? So take those tips and implement them into your own life and hopefully this helps you to create a morning routine that you love and one that you enjoy doing every single day my friends that is everything that I have for you with this week’s podcast episode.
