We are on Episode three or four for November on I am so excited. Because today I am sharing with you what exactly happened when I started to practice gratitude daily. Because in the last week’s episode, I said it literally changed my life. And I was like, I can’t say that I can’t make that claim. And then not back it up with proof. You know what I mean? Like, you can’t claim that something changed your life like that is a big statement, right? Change changed your life, like your whole life, right? And not like give the receipts and show the receipts of like, why that is true. So that’s what we’re doing in today’s episode. And if you’re someone who has been hesitant, or you’re like, Oh, that’s a little too woo girl for me, you need to listen to this episode, because I’m going to enlighten you as to what can happen in your own life when you start to practice gratitude as well, just because of what happened in my own life, right. So open up your ears. Don’t turn it off because it sounds to woo girl. If you’re like anti woo girl like I used to be, I promise you this is going to be impactful and hopefully encourage and inspire you to implement a daily gratitude routine in your own life. Before we hop into today’s episode, though, I do want to ask you Pretty please, with a cherry on top to go and leave the show a review, we have a goal of hitting 50 reviews by the end of 2022. And we are so close at the time of recording this. We only need like eight or nine reviews to get to 50 on Apple podcasts. I should be specific on Apple podcasts. And that would be like so easy if the nine of you listening to this episode, left a review, or sent the episode to like your mom or your friend or something and was like, Hey, listen to this episode. I love it. I listened to the show every week. I love it. Go leave it a review, like done, boom right there. But if you haven’t yet left a review, please go do so. So we hit our goal of 50 reviews. And when we do I will be doing a podcast exclusive giveaway for those of you who listen week after week. Okay, so let’s dive into what truly happened when I started to practice gratitude daily. Because like I said, it changed my life. So I personally this is a really important detail to know is I have been practicing intentionally practicing gratitude now for four years. Okay, so this wasn’t like an overnight fix. It wasn’t like a quick Band Aid over a bleeding wound like this has been a long time coming. And this has been something that I have practiced for quite a long time now like four years of your life is a long time, especially when you’re 27. That’s like, one six of my whole life is at the math. I think so. I have no idea. Four years of 27 is a big chunk of your life, right? So know that the things that I’m about to share with you didn’t happen because I practice gratitude once. And like, Oh, my God is suddenly my whole life changed. Like it took time. It took practice, and it took discipline. And when I practice gratitude consistently over time, a lot of these things started to happen. And I need you to know that because again, I don’t want you to think that this is like an overnight thing. And you’ll practice gratitude after this episode. And like suddenly, all of your problems we fix. That’s not what this is. But here’s what happened truly, when I started to practice gratitude daily, first and foremost, and probably the thing that happened the soonest was I became more aware of what I had in my life over what I seemingly didn’t have. And this was a big thing for me because I grew up very poor. I grew up with less than my peers and my friends and I really kind of grew up in a lacking mindset of feeling like I never had enough and that was no one’s fault other than the circumstances in which I grew up. But as I got older and as we all probably know if you’re a millennial, your childhood and any kind of like trauma or upbringing, like that carries with you like that sticks with you. And I was living for a long time like as an adult In a lacking mindset, I didn’t have enough I wasn’t making enough money, nothing was good enough like bla bla bla bla bla, right? Like I was just living in a mindset of lack. And once I started to practice gratitude, and consistently practice gratitude and sort of take stock of the good things that I had my overall mindset shift from feeling that of lack to that of abundance, and realizing and being more aware of all of the good that I had in my life, over the things that I either didn’t have, or the negative things that were happening in my life, because no one’s life is perfect, right? Like, we all have trials and tribulations and struggles. But because I was practicing gratitude, each and every day, or the majority of my week, right, like, I consistently practice gratitude, like five or six days a week. And when I started to do that, over time, I naturally became more aware of what I had over what I didn’t have. And that was that is such a huge shift for me. Because again, when you grow up with seemingly less than others, it’s really easy to to live in that mindset forever. But that small practice that small implementation of a gratitude practice really did change that mindset of I don’t have enough to oh my gosh, I have so much and I’m so thankful for what I do have. And I’m I can focus on that more than what I seemingly don’t have. So sorry to interrupt the show minute, but I have some exciting news I need to share with you right now. Are you ready? Or you can go find more information over on my Instagram, which is at living the letter N sunshine. And I cannot wait to see you in there. The next thing that happened when I started practicing gratitude daily was I became more in tune with the natural joys of life and points of gratitude in my day. So something that I sort of have started to use as a phrase this year is natural joys, things that you see out in your life in your day to day experiences that just bring you joy, right? Like examples of this is like whenever I go for my my hot girl walk. If you know what that is, you know what that is my afternoon walk, I try to be really present with my environment around me to to notice the things that make me happy, right? Like it might be a million bumblebees like swarming a tree, or it might be a person playing with their dog in the park. Or it might be the students like coming out of school because we live near an elementary school, then coming out of school and like laughing and having a great time. Like those are natural joys, that because I practice gratitude, I am more in tune with. And I’m more aware of and I allow and I welcome in those natural joys to come to me throughout my day. And I know that that might sound like very woowoo ish, very woowoo girl ish. But when you practice gratitude, it kind of opens up your awareness to be a little bit broader, and to be more receptive of natural joys. And that is something that I feel like so many people don’t see and don’t recognize because their mindset is closed off. And they’re only focusing on what is right in front of them or their phone or the conversation that they’re in. But truly because I started to practice gratitude and it kind of slow down my mindset. And it got me in the practice of reflection. I now when I go out into my natural environment, like I put my phone down and I actually pay attention. I am more reflective and aware of those natural joys in my life, which also rack up my gratitude points for the day and like I’m like, Oh my gosh, I’m so grateful that I got to experience that moment of joy that that that dog had while he was playing in the park with his person or that baby did when they waved at me when I was on my walk or whatever it might be right like small things that in the moment like if you’re not aware of that Mike aren’t significant. But when you open up your mindset to being receptive to those moments of joy, man, they make such the impact. And they bring so much joy and more gratitude into your day to day life. And I really don’t believe that I would be open to those things if I hadn’t started a daily gratitude practice in the first place. Okay, so the third thing that happened when I started to practice gratitude daily is, I genuinely like my baseline of happiness is just higher. And I think that this is because I intentionally practice gratitude in the morning before I do anything else. And what that does, when you practice in the morning is root your mindset in a really great place, right? Like you start to become aware, and you take stock of the things that are going well, and the things that make you happy or proud, or laugh or smile, or whatever. And when you start your day like that, it instantly increases your baseline of happiness and joy. And it’s almost like things can only go up from here, right? Like, that’s really what happens when you practice gratitude, which is why I encourage people to practice gratitude in the morning. So that way, they can elevate their levels of energy right from the get go, and only go up from there. And because I practice gratitude on the daily in the morning, I set my baseline higher maybe than other people. And each day, because I am now more in tune and aware of the natural joys around me, I just continue to sort of like fill up my gratitude jar as I go throughout my day, which in turn, makes me happier, right? Like, do you see the kind of domino effect of that, I start with gratitude. So my baseline of joy and happiness is higher, I go throughout my day, more aware and more in tune with the natural joys of life. And when I have those positive experiences, it’s like another deposit into my gratitude jar, which then makes me happier. So definitely an increase of happiness and joy is a huge side effect and byproduct of a daily gratitude practice. And then finally, the fourth thing that happened when I started to practice gratitude daily is I just genuinely and generally feel more fulfilled, and content than I did before I started to practice gratitude. Now, don’t get me wrong before I started to practice gratitude. And I’ve mentioned this before, like, I’ve always been a very happy go lucky person. Like ever since elementary school, I’ve always been that kid, who has always had a lot of energy has always been pretty positive has always been pretty happy. But ever since I started to practice gratitude, that has only gotten better, and I have only become more fulfilled, and content with the life that I have. Because I have this gratitude practice. And the reason this this happens is because gratitude, and a gratitude practice helps us to remind ourselves of the things that we have, and reminds us to feel thankful for those things and to recognize that they are bringing us positive experiences and positive reactions like happiness, or joy or fulfillment or contentedness, right like that. Just just this practice reminds us of all of the things that we have, instead of allowing us to focus on the things that we don’t have. So just because I started to practice this, this gratitude thing, four years ago, all of these things have happened. And here’s the thing. This isn’t only exclusive to me, these are all things that can happen to you as well, and have happened for other people when they started to practice gratitude to. I’ve done a ton of research and in listening to podcasts and reading things and consuming content about the byproduct and the effects of gratitude. It’s only good things like only good things happen when you start to implement this practice into your daily life. And if you miss last week’s episode, and you’re thinking, I don’t even know how to practice gratitude, like that seems so lofty and so abstract, like how do I even do that? Go back to last week’s episode, Episode 83. And listen to it because I literally unpack it for you in like 17 minutes, I think that episode is, and I teach you how to practice gratitude very simply every single day. So that way you can then have the similar or even better results than I have had. And that my friend is everything that I have for you. Those four major things are the things that have truly happened when I started to practice gratitude, and are huge reasons why I put so much stock and gratitude and why I make claims like practicing gratitude every single day has changed my life like those are your receipts. Those are your proof. And if you still don’t believe in the power of gratitude, I encourage you to implement a gratitude practice into your own life and do it for three to six months and try to tell me that it’s not bringing something good to your life because I promise you, it will don’t forget to take a screen Shout out today’s episode and share your biggest takeaways over on Instagram.
