Welcome to the living in sunshine podcast. If you don’t know who I am, my name is Maddy. And I am so excited to have you tuning in to our weekly podcast episodes, where we chat all the things from tips and tricks to funny stories from my life that have helped me to truly live in the sunshine. In this space, we are all about encouraging, inspiring and giving you the tough love that you need to hear sometimes to realize that you are totally made for more than what you currently have in life, and that you hold the power to make the changes that you need to level up and live your best self. So buckle up, grab some water, and let’s get into it. Hello, good morning. And welcome back to the living in sunshine podcast. I always say good morning. And then I oftentimes reflect on the fact that I almost never listened to podcasts in the mornings. So why do I say good morning on my own podcast? If you are a constant listener to the show, can you please please please send me a message open up Instagram right now. Type in my handle at living the letter N sunshine and send me a DM as to when you actually listened to the show. Because if it’s like the afternoon, and every single time I started these podcast episodes, I say good morning. I feel like I might need to change that. Maybe not maybe us. Well think about it. Welcome back to the show, my friend. I’m so glad that you’re here. If you are new, my name is Mattie fry. And I am the host and CEO of living in sunshine, which is a mindset coaching lifestyle brand where I help women discover their purpose and take action on that purpose to then design a life of joy and a life that they are obsessed with. If this is your first episode that you’ve ever listened to of the living in sunshine podcast, or for the month of December, I want to let you know that all month long, we are talking about vision, how to cast a vision why you should cast a vision. Today we’re going to do a little reflection on your vision or your goals for 2022. And it’s just been an overall good time. I love helping people cast the vision. I am like such a nerd when it comes to this kind of stuff. And if you aren’t too, you’re going to love this month’s podcast episodes. Now before we begin, I want you to be sure that you are on my email list. The reason for this is because over the next two weeks, I have some pretty exciting announcements coming for the living in sunshine squad. In terms of our membership, the living in sunshine squad, or I’m sorry, the sunshine squad community in terms of things happening for 2023. And a super fun sale that is going to be happening the last week of the year that I don’t want you to miss to be able to get on my email list, you’re going to want to go to the link in the show notes and just sign up for the monthly sunshine newsletter, I will be sending out these emails to my entire newsletter list. So if you’re on that list, you’re good to go. If you’re not be sure to sign up ASAP, because once you are you will be first in the know to know of new things happening, sales, membership promos, and all the good things coming over the next few weeks. So for today’s episode, we are going to do a reflection activity on our visions that we set for 2022. So that way, we can then use this information, this data as I like to think of it as to develop and form our visions for next year. So if you have one, grab your vision board up, pull it up, as long as you’re not like driving or operating heavy machinery. If you are just think about what you casted your vision for for this year and answer the questions. I have mine printed out. That’s the sound of my paper, my vision board that I printed out flapping in the wind. So I’m going to do this activity with you guys. We’re going to be answering some questions to reflect on our visions, how we did and where we can go from here to set a really solid vision and foundational vision for the new year. Okay, so the first question that you’re going to ask yourself, and you can write this down on a piece of paper in your digital planner or journal or just on your phone. The first question I want you to ask yourself is what went really well, okay. And the reason I want us to think about this first is because I want you to route yourself in a space of celebration, and recognition of all the hard work that you put into your business yourself, your relationships or your work throughout the year. So often we can sometimes get trapped in only thinking about the things that we haven’t done well, or the things that we didn’t succeed when it comes to reflecting on the past year. And I don’t want us to start there. Right. I want us to start in a space of gratitude and recognition and celebration. So what went really well this year for me in my life, the things that went really well, we’re getting my systems down in my business. And that might sound really silly. But as someone who runs to full time businesses, if my systems and my habits and my routines weren’t what they are, I would not have gotten the the amount of things done that I got done, the the launches got done that got done, I probably wouldn’t have had so much success with the client work that I do. And it just wouldn’t have been as full of a year in terms of production and things that I put out into the universe, if I didn’t have those things in place. Now, our second question really goes along well with question number one, and that is, what are three to five big things that I am celebrating about the year. Okay. So think big, think big picture, if you are someone who does own a business, and I only say this because I know I have a lot of people who who listen to this podcast who do have a business big or small their whole life or not, I want you to think outside of your work, I want you to think outside of your business, because what you do for a living is not the only thing that you do. And I’m sure that there are other large things that have happened in 2022, that you can celebrate some examples from my life would be celebrating the fact that both Lucas and I both of us got to go to two weddings of some very close friends of ours this year. And that might sound like it’s really not a big deal. But for us, it really is because so often when it comes to trips, or going places, it can be really complicated because of the number of animals that we have. If you don’t know, my husband and I have five dogs, yes, five, yes, it’s way too much, and two guinea pigs. And we live out in the middle of El Paso, Texas, and we have no one close who can watch our animals. And so just from a financial standpoint, getting someone to watch our dogs is quite a lot of money. So getting to go on two separate trips, actually three separate trips this year together is such a huge win for us, because it just shows that we’re in a space that we can afford to do that, which I’m so grateful for. But we’re also getting to a point where we trust other people enough to come in and take care of our dogs, and our guinea pigs that we literally see as our children. And that, to me is something to celebrate. So whatever it might be for you, it could be business related, it could be something personal like mine, I want you to jot down and reflect on and think about three to five big things that you did this year that you can celebrate, okay, so with every point of celebration, we need to also be mindful and be logical and realistic. And consider the things that we didn’t make happen, right, the things that didn’t necessarily come true. So our next question that we’re going to reflect on is what is something that I had on my vision board or on my goals list for the year? That didn’t happen? And why didn’t that happen? Right? So again, what is something I had on my vision board that I wanted to accomplish this year, or goal that I wanted to accomplish this year? That didn’t happen? And why didn’t it happen? Looking at my vision board, I have a few things that didn’t happen on my vision board. Honestly, a lot of my numbers based goals didn’t happen. Some of them did. Some of them didn’t. But a big thing that I had on our vision board for the year was to buying an RV was to buy a camper. And again, it might sound silly to you. But for us, we at the beginning of the year, we had this big goal is big intention of buying an RV or a camper and getting out and traveling more often. And that didn’t happen this year because of a lot of unexpected house financial needs that needed to be paid for. And we also made the big decision to move at the end of the year. We are actually currently as you’re listening to this episode, in the process of selling our house, I’m really hoping by the time this podcast episodes goes live, it’s already sold. But we made the decision as a family unit to move in to move back towards family on the east side of the country. And all of those things combined just didn’t lead to making this piece of my vision board happen. And that’s okay. Another big thing that didn’t happen on my vision board was I had for my etsy store that I wanted to have physical products in my Etsy shop. And I also wanted to have a monthly revenue of $3,000. And neither of those things happened. And I can tell you why. The reason those didn’t happen was because my focus wasn’t on Etsy this year. At the start of the year I had this huge dream and this huge goal and this huge focus on building my etsy store and introducing physical product and and growing that as a revenue stream. And as the year went on, my focus and where my sort of dreams aligned had changed and that’s okay so Sometimes we need to do this kind of reflection. And we need to ask ourselves why something didn’t happen and what didn’t happen and why. So that way we can realize where our priorities now align. And for me, and my business, my priorities as a business owner aren’t as aligned with growing an Etsy store, as they were at the beginning of the year, which I think is so fascinating and interesting to think about. And that’s okay. I think that this gives me a point of data that shows me where I need to realign my vision for next year, if I want to keep Etsy on my vision board going forward, or change it for something else. And if you’re in the same situation where you didn’t hit a numbers based goal on your vision board, ask yourself, why is it because your focus was off? Is it because your you know, priorities change? Is it because it didn’t really become as important to you as it was at the start of the year? Or is it because you just didn’t do the work to make it happen? It’s important to be real and honest with yourself in these moments of reflection, because the more honest and the more real you are with yourself, the better you can become from it. So sorry to interrupt the show minute, but I have some exciting news I need to share with you right now. Are you ready? Or you can go find more information over on my Instagram, which is at living the letter N sunshine. And I cannot wait to see you in there. Okay, the next question to ask yourself is what is something I am bummed I didn’t get to this year? And is it something that I will prioritize next year? So again, this question very beautifully follows up the question prior because you can ask yourself, man, I feel X emotion towards not achieving this goal. Right? For me, we’ll use the example of a $3,000 monthly revenue from Etsy. How do I feel about that? Am I fine with it? Am I kind of bummed about it? Am I just so so on it like how am I feeling about not hitting that goal. And if you have something that you feel really bummed out about? Now for me, I’ll give you a different example. I had the huge vision, right? And it’s kind of embarrassing to say, I feel a little bit vulnerable sharing this, but that’s okay, vulnerability with vulnerability comes growth. I had this really huge goal you guys to have a $10,000 launch from my course the own your vision course. And truth be told, as I’m recording this podcast episode, that course has not sold once hasn’t sold once has it sold one time? I have made $0 on that course. And I am using that. Am I bummed about that? Yeah, absolutely. Because at the beginning of the year, I had this huge goal in this huge dream of having 1000s and 1000s of dollars come out of that course launch. And I have another course I was going to launch this year that I never launched because things changed. And that to me was going to be a $15,000 launch. It didn’t happen. You guys. I don’t have that extra $25,000 that I had put on my vision board at the beginning of the year. Am I bummed about it? Yeah, not having that money is kind of a bummer. I’m not gonna lie. But the follow up question is, is it something that I will prioritize next year? And the question is, I don’t know, at this point, I don’t know. Because I’m finding and as I’m, you know, launching these different things, I’m discovering that this community, the sun, the living in Sunshine Community, doesn’t really vibe with courses, and that’s okay. Maybe my business model doesn’t include courses, maybe it doesn’t include high ticket courses. And that’s okay. Again, this is another data point that we can use as humans, to course correct to pivot to make a new plan to try something new. And it’s really important, again, that we ask ourselves these questions, these reflection questions. So we know where We want to go moving forward. Okay, so we have two more questions when it comes to this reflection process on the year on our visions on our goals from 2020 to the next question that we’re going to ask ourselves is, where are the areas that I feel like I can improve on next year? Okay, I’m gonna say that one more time, where are the areas, or what are the areas that I feel like I can improve on next year? Okay, for me, I have three really big ones, I can tell you one minute trician, I’m not gonna lie, my eating habits for 2022 have been fine, they have not been good, they have not been great. And I am seeing physical changes in my body. Because of that, because of the lack of eating well, and eating as I probably should be eating. So something that I really want to focus on next year is eating in a way that energizes my body. And that energizes the growth that I want to and need to see in 2023, to get to the goals that I have for myself. That’s area number one. area number two is to get really streamlined in my marketing, and having an organized system to know that I am sharing my resources and my services and what I have to offer in a really cohesive way. Because so often, whether you realize it or not, I’m flying by the seat of my pants, like, there’s really no rhyme or reason to a lot of the things that I talked about, and the things that I share. And a big area of improvement for myself for next year, is to come up with a system that works, that keeps me on track to make sure that I’m talking about what I have to offer. And I’m making sure that I’m sharing those opportunities with other people, because I genuinely believe in my ability to change someone else’s life from what I have to offer. And that’s area number two, area number three for me is really honing in on money management. So all of this year, throughout the year, on and off throughout 2022, I have been really interested in personal finance, and improving my personal finance to have a healthier relationship with money. I’ve shared about this a few times. But growing up, I personally grew up very poor. I am the third child of a single mother who put all of her kids through school. And there’s a lot of past financial trauma in my life that I am working on working through, right. And something that I did again, on and off throughout 2022 was, you know, I’d get really hyped up about money management and personal finances, and then I would let it go. And then I would get really hyped up again for a few weeks and be really into it. And then I would let it go right like that has kind of been my up and down roller coaster, habit and routine and you know, things I was working on throughout the year, moving into 2023. As I have some really big goals, to scale my businesses and scale my finances, I want to get really good at that I want to get really good and mindful and aware. And solid in my money management. So then I can continue to grow from there. So ask yourself, Where are the areas that you want to improve on the New Year? And follow that up with a why like, why does that matter to you and write that down? And our final question for this reflection exercise for 2022 is what are the feelings that I want to duplicate? Or avoid in 2023? So as we go into the new year, what are some feelings from 2022 From this year that you either want to duplicate? Or a void? Okay, I’ll give you one example of both. One thing, one feeling that I want to duplicate over and over and over and over and over is the sense of gratitude that I have for my life. And in the month of November, we talked all about gratitude on the podcast. But this year, I have to say, truly, honestly, authentically holy, has been the best year of my life. So many good things have come from this year. So many opportunities have come up that I have been grateful that I said yes to. And the number one feeling that I have felt this year is this overwhelming sense of gratitude, gratitude for what I get to do gratitude for who I get to work with gratitude for my husband and my business and my dogs and my family and my friends. Like that is a feeling that I want to duplicate over and over and over and continue to have as I move forward through the New Year, because it’s something that just feels so authentically me, right. A feeling that I want to avoid and 2023 Is this overwhelming sense of worry. I am someone who has struggled with anxiety for her whole life like as long as I can remember right. And I sometimes can get wrapped up in this spiral of worry and anxiety and that’s something that I want to try to avoid and 2023 I want to try to do what I can to support myself when I’m in those moments of stress or anxiety or worry, and do what I can to get myself out of that spiral. What that looks like right now, I don’t know how I’m going to do that in the moment. I’m not sure, but it’s something that I will be aware of because I took the time to reflect on it right now during this podcast episode and going forward throughout the year. And those are all of the questions that I want you to ask yourself going towards 2023. And as you reflect on 2022, I will write them in the shownotes for you guys. So you can copy paste them into like a note on your phone or you can write them down. If you’re listening to this, you can scroll down to the show notes, and I’ll put them right there for you. So you have them. But seriously, please give yourself half an hour, 45 minutes to ask yourself these questions and reflect on the year. If you don’t first take the time to reflect. You won’t know where you need to and where you can improve going forward. And most importantly, you don’t know what to celebrate from the year. So answer these questions. Share the answers with someone you love. If you want to send me your answers on Instagram, I would love to hear it. And I hope you found this episode to be helpful.
