Today, I am sharing with you three things YOU can do to grow right along with me. These things are seemingly simple, but the hard part comes when you realize they take time and consistency to make them happen. If you are ready to have the best year ever though, these three things will help you do just that!

Maddy 0:08 Welcome to the living in sunshine podcast. If you don’t know who I am, my name is Maddie. And I am so excited to have you tuning in to our weekly podcast episodes, where we chat all the things from tips and tricks to funny stories from my life that have helped me to truly live in the sunshine. In this space, we are all about encouraging, inspiring and giving you the tough love that you need to hear sometimes to realize that you are totally made for more than what you currently have in life, and that you hold the power to make the changes that you need to level up and live your best self. So buckle up, grab some water, and let’s get into it. Good morning, my dudes and Happy New Year, I am so excited that we are here in the brand new year of 2023. I cannot believe we’re here honestly, 2022 felt like such a solid full year, but also like the like one of the fastest years of my whole life. And it’s just so crazy to me that we’re here, right now, the new year already. And it’s just wild to me, I’m sure that so many of us are feeling refreshed and rejuvenated and excited and energized to go into the new year with new goals and visions, maybe resolutions, even though I don’t really like New Year’s resolutions. But that’s a whole thing that I did last year and talked about on the show. I just love the new year because I feel like there’s so much good energy, and so much anticipation that we can use to really leverage and harness to create the best year ever, for ourselves. And in case you’re new here and you’re just now tuning in or finding the show. Hello, my name is Maddie Frey. I am the voice woman person and CEO behind the living in Sunshine Community. And in this space, we’re all about designing and living a life that we are obsessed with. And a life that feels so freakin aligned with who we are and what we want what we want for ourselves that we just cannot shut up about it like we’re so overfilled with joy and intention and purpose and drive that we want to share that energy with other people. And when we get to that place, we want to give it back to the people who we love and the people that we want to service all the time. And if you are new around here at please send me a message over on Instagram. My handle is at living the letter N sunshine. And let me know that you found the show and connect with me in that way. I love love, love, love, love, love when you guys send me little notes on Instagram, and connect with me in that way. I think it’s so special. I always like fan girl a little bit. You guys send me messages, even if it’s just like, hey, I listened to your episode, it was pretty good. Like thanks for putting it out there. It makes my whole day. And I just want you to know that like it’s okay to send me a message and like I literally like it you will make my entire day if you send me a note just saying that you listen today’s episode, whether you’re new or not, and how it impacted you and how it served you where you are today. Now one more thing that I want to share with you and tell you before we dive into our first episode of 2023 is to go and take our living in sunshine personality survey, if you haven’t yet done that. Now, our personality survey is something I designed last fall and so many of you like over 300 of you have taken it which is mind blowing. But the reason it’s super important that you take it now like literally as you listen to this episode, take it you can find it linked in the show notes and you can find it over on my Instagram is because all year long, I have resources, talks and trainings in the works on my calendar that are specific to our four personality types. And those four types are the happy, Hustler, Joy seeker, Dream Chaser, and purpose pursuer. And these four personality types are very specific personality types that I see and connect with on the daily in the living in sunshine squad community. So if you want to discover not only what your personality is, but why it’s your secret superpower, I need you to go to the link in the show notes or you can go to living the letter n sunshine.com/survey. And take it there. This survey is going to tell you what your personality is why it’s your secret superpower and going forward throughout 2023. You will get exclusive tailor to you resources and supports via your email after you get your results based on what your result is. All right. And without further ado, let’s go ahead and dive in to the first episode of 2023 which is three things that you can do to grow in the new year. Something that’s super important that you know is that our theme of the month is self growth. So all month long in January we are going to be diving in and peeling back the layers on what self growth actually looks like, and how we can talk about this in a couple of different angles, to really get a full scope holistic view as to what self growth is, and how we can consistently and sustainably work on growing ourselves to become the best version of ourselves to then live a life that we love and feel so aligned to who we are. And today, I’m going to give you three things that you can do to grow. And these are three things that you can do all year long. These are long term commitments, right, I’m never a shortcut, or, you know, quick results, or, I don’t know, fast acting pill kind of person, like I am very much a believer in the slow burn and the slow journey and taking it at your own time and pace. Because not everyone is going to grow and change and evolve at the same time. But these three things that I’m going to share with you will help you to grow and evolve in your own time. So let’s talk about number one. Number one is to commit to finding your people, or finding a community where you feel seen and supported. Now, this is really important. Because if you’re anything like me, you’re like mid to late 20s, maybe you’re in your 30s or 40s, I am sure at one point in your life, you have felt isolated and alone. And like no one really understood what you were going through or what you wanted for yourself or your bigger vision for your life. And that feels really lonely. I’m not gonna lie, it feels extremely lonely. And it’s really isolating, which then makes doing the work and committing to the work that much harder. My friend, your people, when I say your people commit to finding your people, they will be the ones who will make you feel alive and seen and supported and heard. These are the people who you want to be around the people that you want to hang out with the people who you want to support in return, right? It’s not just a one way street, when it comes to relationships, relationships are two ways. So you know that someone is your quote unquote, person, when they not only support you, but you want to support them in return, right. And the reason again, this is so important, is because when we are surrounded by our people, people who get us who want us to win, who see us who hear us who listen to our successes and our losses, right? When we have these people and we find these people we in turn is the quote goes stay close to the fire. This fire that I’m talking about is the energy that these people bring us the inspiration, encouragement that these people bring us. And when we stay close to this, you will find that you are more energized and encouraged and enlightened and inspired to put in the work to grow yourself in whatever area you’re wanting to grow. Maybe it’s in business, maybe it’s in relationships, maybe it’s in your own self image or self confidence. Maybe it’s in how you parent or what kind of parent you are, like when you find those people who are doing or who have done what you want to do. And you stay close to them. Oh my gosh, there’s no stopping you. Because you get that constant motivation and inspiration and encouragement that you need to stay on the path to get to where you want to go. And this is a shameless plug for the sunshine squad community. This is the exact reason why I created the sunshine squad community to help women find those connections faster. And find a community that actually sees, hears and supports them in their current season of life no matter what that looks like, because I know the power of community. And I know that you probably know or want to know or are open to becoming part of such a powerful community. And that’s what the sunshine squad is really all about. So thing number one to commit to to grow in 2023 is finding your people and finding a community that you feel seen heard and supported in thing number two that you can do to grow in 2023 is to invest in personal development, however that looks. Now if you’re rolling your eyes or you’re like oh my god, personal development. I’m so tired of hearing people talk about this. I was the same exact person like not even three or four years ago, and it has been the biggest number one like game changer in my entire life. Figuring out what personal development I resonate with, meaning books, podcasts, mentors, friendships, communities, courses, memberships, all of those things, you guys those all fall under personal development. And once I determined and figured out which resonates with me the most, the more growth I continue to experience because I can tell you firsthand. Not every single personal development book or podcast is summed rusty, crusty old white guy with like a blue hardback cover with like gold, flashy lettering on the front, you know, I’m talking about. That’s not what personal development is anymore. Personal development looks like yes, reading a book or listening to a book on Audible or whatever kind of recorded audio book you’re listening to. It also includes podcasts, it includes memberships, it includes courses, it includes hiring a coach. And the biggest thing that you can do for yourself, is take time. And give yourself the freedom and the space to explore what kind of personal development lights you up, and then invest in it as much as you can. And when I say investment, investing isn’t only money anymore, you guys like I know that that’s like the common understanding of the word investment. But you can invest time, you can invest relationships, you can invest energy, or yes, of course, money into personal development. But whatever that looks like for you, however, that looks like for you, the more you do this, the more you will grow. Because the beautiful thing about personal development is it plants little seeds of inspiration or growth or ideas to explore or things to consider that over time when they pop back up on your brain. They help you to realize new things, or discover new parts of yourself or grow in a certain way. But if you don’t first invest in personal development, you’re never going to have those little brain seeds growing in your mind that will help you to become a better person. And if you need, you know, support or recommendations of a personal development, like bookless, feel free to send me a message on Instagram, I actually have a booklet that you can snag for me, and I will send it to you over on Instagram, but whatever your personal development looks like you guys, please find something that resonates with you and invest in it. And let me just say this, if it does come down to investing, and it’s something that you want to invest in, and that includes investing money, you’re allowed to do that, okay? You are allowed to invest money into improving yourself when it comes to personal development. I think that it’s one of those things that especially if you’re in a relationship, or you are sharing your finances with another person, it can feel really sticky to invest money in your own personal development, because it’s wholly personal, right? It’s a little bit different than say, you know, subscribing to Netflix, or, I don’t know, spending money on in going to a movie with that person, because that’s a joint shared experience. Whereas spending money and investing money in your own personal growth is wholly personal. And if you are in a season or a relationship where someone says to you, why are you spending money on that? Like, why are you doing that you can share with them that you are on this journey of self growth. So that way, you can then be a better version of yourself for that person. And that’s okay. And you’re allowed to do that you’re allowed to spend your money in that way, even if you have people in your life who are questioning it. And I just wanted to say that because again, there are times in life that we share something with someone that we love, and they just don’t fully understand. And I want you to know that it’s okay to stand up for yourself. And it’s okay for you to advocate for your own best self and your own growth, even if it is in the form of personal development, which is a highly personal individualized thing. So take that for what you will use that permission slip to share why you’re investing in personal development with someone that you love, if you share finances with them. And if you don’t, and you just need the permission slip to know that it’s okay to invest in yourself in that way. It’s okay to invest in yourself in that way. And finally, thing number three that you can do to grow in your own self in 2023 is to find something that helps you to grow your mindset. Now, everything we do quite literally comes back to our current mindset. So if your mindset is not currently in the right place, you will not be able to grow this year. So what that means is you need to do things and find things that help you to grow your mindset to be in a place that allows you to grow and explore and get creative and try new things and have hard conversations that need to be had and hold yourself to a higher standard and expectations. It all comes back to mindset. And again, if your mindset isn’t in the right place, nothing that you do to help to grow yourself is going to matter because you’re not in the right mindset to accept that kind of growth and change. And currently for me as someone who has been working on growing her mindset for the last several years, I’m still doing things that helped me grow my mindset in this way. One thing that I’m really starting to explore is meditation. This is a new thing to me. I actually started a few weeks ago and I I remember telling myself like, I really want to try meditation. But I can only do five minutes of meditation because I’m so squirrely. And so, you know, sporadically minded, and my brain is always all over the place. And I don’t really have time or wherever, right Excuse Excuse, Excuse Excuse, limiting belief after limiting belief, right. And I have found that over the last few weeks, I would say probably five or six weeks, that not only have I been able to grow past five minute meditations, but I’ve been able to complete multiple 10 minute meditations on my own that aren’t guided. And by that, I mean, I have a little meditation app, it’s called Insight Timer, it’s free on the App Store, if you have an iPhone, I’ve been able to complete, they’re just like little sound bowls, if you would, and you set a timer. And I’ve been able to do multiple of those for 10 minutes all on my own. And it’s such a small part of my day, right? 10 minutes is like nothing in your day. But it’s doing so much to help me unwind past trauma, and heal internally that I’ve been needing to do for myself, and grow my mindset in a new way that I haven’t yet explored, right. Other things that you can do to grow, your mindset would be would be writing affirmations, and if you’re someone who wants to get into affirmations, but you haven’t yet done so because you feel like there’s a barrier or a knowledge block or you don’t fully understand what they are. I actually just released a 2023 affirmation journal. It’s a 30 day guided affirmation journal that you can download right now, I will link it in the show notes for you as well. And you can use it to get into that practice of writing affirmations. And maybe you’ve already mastered affirmations, maybe you need to work on gratitude, or meditation, or working out or doing yoga, or going for a walk, right? All of these things come together to help you grow your mindset. And I probably should have put this one first, because it’s probably the most important one. Because again, if you don’t have your mind in the right place, nothing else is going to matter. Because it’s not going to sink in the way that it needs to sink in because your mindset is rooted in a place of lack or scarcity. Or I’m not worthy enough, or I’m not smart enough, or I’m not deserving of these things, right. And so everything that you do, whether it’s finding a community, or investing in personal development, all of that’s going to remain surface level. But when you start to grow your mindset, and you grow it in a way that helps you to believe that you are worthy, you are such a gift on this earth, you can achieve hard things, you are deserving of all the love and support and encouragement that you can get. You can change your mindset to do new things that you’ve never thought you’d be able to do. That’s when the real power starts to happen. But all of that only happens if your mindset is in the right place. So if you do nothing else during this year, work and focus on growing your mindset and growing it to be a place where you wake up every single day energized, excited, alive, ecstatic, ready to get to work and ready to start your day in a space of joy and abundance. Man oh man, you are going to be well on your way to having the best year ever. And my friend that is everything I have for you today. That is our very first episode of 2023.
