EPISODE 94: [STORYTIME] Things I am working on in 2023

Sure, I can stand here in my closet and tell you all the things you need to do to improve in 2023. But how hypocritical would it be for me if I didn’t share the things I am doing to improve in 2023?! Well bestie girl, it today’s episode, that is what we chat about. 2023 is going to be the best year ever and these things I am committing too are going to be the reason that is true.

What are you doing to improve in 2023? Send me a DM on Instagram (@livingnsunshine) and let’s chat about it!

Maddy 0:08 Welcome to the living in sunshine podcast if you don’t know who I am, my name is Maddie. And I am so excited to have you tuning in to our weekly podcast episodes, where we chat all the things from tips and tricks to funny stories from my life that have helped me to truly live in the sunshine. In this space, we are all about encouraging, inspiring and giving you the tough love that you need to hear sometimes to realize that you are totally made for more than what you currently have in life, and that you hold the power to make the changes that you need to level up and live your best self. So buckle up, grab some water, and let’s get into it. Hey, hey, hey, cutie girl. And welcome back to the living in sunshine up podcast. I am so glad that you are tuning in for the final episode of January where we have been talking about all month long, this topic and idea of self growth. And if you haven’t tuned into any of the episodes this month, go take time today to play catch up. Because next week, we are starting over with a brand new theme. And I want to make sure that you are walking into the full year of 2023 with the tools, resources and encouragement that you need to focus on yourself and 2023 and make it the best year ever. And one thing that you can do right now to be well on your way to having the best year ever is to go take the living and sunshine at personality survey is literally 60 seconds 10 questions. And once you are done taking it, you will get tailored resources, conversations, talks, trainings, things from me, that will help you to serve your true personality, whatever one you get, and help you to grow in that personality. So that way you can have the best year ever. So if you don’t yet know what your personality is, we have four of them, be sure to head over to the link in my show notes or over on Instagram. Or you can just hippity hop over to Google Chrome and type in living the letter n sunshine.com/survey. And you can take it there as well. And again, once you get your results, whichever personality you are, you will get tailored resources and supports for me all year long that are tailored to that personality. Okay, my friend. So to round out our month of talking about self growth, I thought that it would be only fair to share with you the things that I’m working on in 2023. Because it’s all well and good if I stand here and I like talking to this microphone, and I tell you all the things that you should be doing. But wouldn’t it be a little bit hypocritical if I didn’t tell you the things that I’m focusing on this year to work on myself and to grow? I feel like it would be. So today I’m going to be sharing with you a few things mainly because my life is currently in a huge season of transition. I don’t want to overload myself, I so I want to share with you the few things that I’m really keeping in the front of my brain in terms of things that I want to get better at things that I want to focus on, and things that I really want to do for myself in order to grow this year. And the biggest thing probably and something that you’re probably going to witness me do all year long over on Instagram is getting into a schedule, and a new routine post move. So in case you don’t know where you don’t follow me on Instagram or anything. My husband and I have recently moved, we relocated from West Texas, El Paso, Texas to be specific to Summerville, South Carolina, which is about like 45 minutes to an hour north of Charleston. And it was a huge move. We moved at the beginning of this month, actually we well, no, not really, we kind of moved at the end of December, right before the new year we moved here. And that whole transition from moving and selling our house to getting to where we are now is a huge change, right. And at the point of recording this, I’m actually recording this in December, before we move. We don’t have a house that we’re living in, we’re actually going to be hanging out at my mom’s until we sell our house and find a rental to move into. So I just know that that’s going to be a huge like turn your life upside down situation. And so my big focus for the first half of the year especially, is to just get into a new schedule and a new routine, because I don’t know where we’re going to be living. I don’t know what our living arrangements are going to be. I don’t know what our housing situation is going to be. And it’s just one of those things that’s very much up in the air to where, for me that’s a really big thing because I am 100% A very type A I have to have a schedule I lean on my routines I live in all of those things that having all of that uncertainty feels like a lot to handle and it feels like a lot to manage to wear for the first half of the year especially. I am pulling back on things things that I’m launching and things that I’m creating, and I’m being really intentional and in front loading and working on things way, way, way ahead of time. Because I don’t know if we’re going to be moving again, I don’t know, if we’re going to be buying a house, I don’t know if we’ll be moving into a rental, or, or a new house, or we’ll still be with my mom, like, I have no idea. And so my big focus for this year is to get into a routine and get back on a schedule, whenever and wherever that looks like, right, I don’t know what it’s going to look like, I don’t know if we’re going to be moving into a rental. And then we find a house that we love, and we end up buying it. So we’re gonna have to move again, right? Like we just we don’t know. So my big thing that I’m working on this year is to find balance and find a routine in the chaos that my life is going to be just because it’s a whole lot of uncertainty right now. But I think it’d be really fun to like, tune into this episode and listen to it like in another year, right? And listen to this and hopefully have found where we’re living and discover what that new routine looks like. The other reason this is a big thing for me is because I’m completely reworking my work schedule as well, which I’m really excited about because I want to make space for living in sunshine and new projects that I’m working on. So I think it’d be really cool and interesting to see what that new routine looks like. And new schedule looks like for me, because that’s another big thing that I’m changing, heading into 2023. Okay, the next thing that I’m really working on for 2023 is building a consistent meditation practice. So meditating and building this practice is actually something that I started earlier in December. And it’s something that I’m already starting to see the results from, and meditation, just like gratitude, or affirmations, or casting a vision, or really any of those things, I feel like they’re all in the similar like, bundle or like fall under the same umbrella, if you would, I feel like they’re one of those things that like, you get it if you do it. And if you don’t do it, you don’t get it, right, like if you’re in it, you get it. And if you’re not in it, you don’t. And meditation is 100% one of those things where you really start to see, when you do things like relinquish your control, and relinquish your expectations, and you just show up as you are you just, you know, do the meditation, whether it’s guided or it’s just on your own, you really start to see the impact that I can have on you. And right now I’m not super consistent at it. So one of the things that I want to do this year, is to become consistent at meditating, whether that is meditating every day, or meditating five days a week, or I don’t know meditating, always right after I work out, like whatever it is, like, I am already starting to see the powerful results in impact from a five or 10 minute meditation to where I want to continue to explore that practice to see where it can take me and how it can heal me and what it can show me and what I can learn from it, because I’m already learning so much from it. And I’m already doing a lot of internal healing from past trauma from it just from this initial first stage. And I would love to be able to see and see where I can grow to maybe I can meditate for 20 minutes or 30 minutes or an hour, right. Like I would love to be able to see where I go, and how I grow when I build this consistent practice. And again, just like things that I feel like I’m already really good at writing affirmations, gratitude, practice taking care of myself, right exercise, it’s going to be something that is a practice, it’s going to be something that takes time. And so I am committing to building this consistent practice to see where it takes me in 2023. And to see what I can learn from it. And I’m really excited to see where it goes and to see what it teaches me and in turn, share that experience and those learnings with you. Because this is very much like a let’s do it together kind of space. This is. This is not the I’m an expert in everything. Here’s how I can teach you it’s very much like, I’m going to try this thing out. I’m gonna see how it goes. And we’ll see where it takes us. Like let’s do it together and figure it out together. And meditation is definitely one of those things where I’m very much like, I have no idea what I’m doing like, well, let’s just do it better. Like let’s figure it out. Let’s talk about it. And I’m really excited to see where that takes me this year. Another big thing that I am really working on this year. And this is something that I kind of started to dip my toes into in 2022. But I really want to get smart and focused on it and 2023 is personal finance and financial literacy. This is something that I really kind of discovered in 2022 and I started to do things like open up a high yield savings account. I talked to my CPA about opening a four Oh 1k For myself, but I really want to in 2023, continue to learn and start to do things like invest and open up a Roth IRA and have a 401. K and, and really set myself up for personal wealth going forward. Because right now, and this is true for any brand new business or any human being, I feel like a lot of my wealth is tied to my business. And I really want to get to a space where I have personal wealth, does that make sense? Like I want my business to thrive? Yes. But I also want to have my own, you know, personal wealth, I want to be able to say when I’m, like 45, or 50, if possible, like what a dream, like I’m done, I’m done working Peace out, like I have what I need, I’m good to go, I’ve been really smart with my money. And I’m able to live my life the way that I want, I don’t have to work if I don’t want to. And the current situation that I’m in right now, just to give you transparency, because I’m sure I’m not alone in this. My husband does a lot of this stuff for me, like he invests in a portfolio, and he has a retirement plan for us and like life insurance, and all that kind of like money stuff, he does all of those things. And of course, like he tells me, we have conversations about it. But like, I don’t have any of that for myself, like, if you if you told me that you were going to take my dog or I had to like do these things like I would lose a dog because I don’t know how to do any of these things. And I’m just not. I’m not knowledgeable, I don’t know. And so my big thing for 2023 is to learn these terms and to become more financially literate, and to set myself up for long term financial wealth, insecurity and stability, because that wasn’t something that I had growing up. And that wasn’t something that truly I have right now. And that’s something that I want to change, right? If we go back to our episode from last week, what you’re not changing, you’re choosing and I don’t want to choose that anymore. I want to feel financially secure and confident and like I’m in control. And this, this is going to look like in the form of probably hiring a financial coach and opening up having that uncomfortable conversation with my CPA of I want to open up a 401 K for myself, but I have no idea how to do that. Can you teach me how to do that, right and having those conversations and getting a little bit uncomfortable. Because as it is for really any kind of topic, it’s uncomfortable to say, I don’t know, like, I don’t know how to do that. Like, I don’t know anything about that. And it 100% Especially when it comes to financial literacy feels like something I should know, it feels like something I should have been taught. And I wasn’t because of circumstances and my family and like schooling like they don’t teach you these types of things. So this is another big thing that I’m really working on and 2023. And again, it’s something that I’m learning as I go. So like if you if you are in the same space, if this is something that you want to work on in 2023, like, let’s do it together, I have no idea. I don’t know what I’m doing. Like, let’s do it together and figure it out as we go together. Like why not. And finally, the last thing and let me just point out, I have four big things all year you guys that I’m focusing on four things, four big things that I’m really working on, which just I tell you because I don’t want you to feel like you have to have a million things that you want to work on this year to be worthy enough of that or to feel like you’re doing enough like I’m doing for for a whole year for that’s it. And if you’re only doing like one or two, that’s fine. That is enough. But anyway, my fourth thing that I really, really working on in 2023 is staying focused on the current project and not starting something new, just because it’s really exciting, or because it makes me really energized. Okay, and I say this, and this is really something that’s going to hit home with my business owners, because I am someone who very much will, like be doing my hair or something, and come up with this really great idea for a course, or a mini course or a masterclass or a product or something else to create. And I want to like run with it right away because it’s fresh in my brain. But I already have like a to do list taller than me waiting on me to do. And then when I run away with this new idea, all of these other things that were once super exciting to me get left in the dust. And I’ve seen this manifest in someone that I’m close to in my life, and they never really follow through on things from start to finish all the way and I don’t want to fall into those same footsteps. I don’t want to follow those same footsteps. So my big intention is staying focused on the current project and not getting so distracted by something new and shiny, that I continuously leave things half done, or I don’t follow through One things, because they’re no longer exciting to me. And I’m doing this not on my own. And I say this next thing just to show transparency, like, I recognize in myself that this is something that I do. So I’ve actually hired someone to help me stay on track, and she’s my OBM. Her name is Janice cook, I am obsessed with her, I would literally lay down in front of a moving car to rescue her. I love her so much. But she helps me stay on track. And she helps me to say, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, I see the vision, I see the goal. But we need to do these things first, because they used to be that new, exciting thing for you. And the reason I tell you this is because I want you to know that if you are similar to me, that it’s okay to bring someone on, especially if you’re a business owner, to help keep you on track. And to help keep you on pace with the things that you already have in front of your face. Okay, and I’m 100% that kind of person who I would not be able to do that if I didn’t have a second human behind me saying hello, you already have a million things you’re doing, what are you doing, adding on another thing, what are you doing, I would not be able to get the things done all the way through if it weren’t for having that second person. So just know that if you are in the same space, or if you’re the same kind of way, like it’s okay to ask someone to help you stay on track, and help you to stay on pace with where you want to go. But that’s my big final thing that I want to do. In 2023, I already have my calendar set, I already have my product launches, determined I already have these things in the works. My big goal for 2023 is to follow the plan, and to only add in things that are really intentional with that season. And to save everything else for another year. Because you don’t need to do it all all the time. And you don’t need to do it. All right now, in order to be successful or worthy, or like a high achiever or anything like you can play your game at your own pace and do things at your own speed, and block everything else out. And that’s kind of what I’m trying to tell myself and focusing on this year. And that’s it you guys, those are the four things that I’m focusing on in 2023. And honestly, a lot of these things are not going to happen until the first one happens, which is to figure out where we’re landing and where we’re getting settled. And to just get settled. This season, especially this first half of the year is very much going to be slow down. Take your time, take the space that you need to to get settled and to get into a new routine. And I need you to know if if you’re in the same season, that’s okay. Again, we don’t need to do it all all the time in order to be successful and worthy and great and amazing. We can give ourselves the space and the time that we need to get rooted and get grounded and then tackle everything else. So I hope that me sharing what I’m working on this year gives you maybe a starting space or encourages you to maybe add one more thing in or take one thing off and and do the same thing for yourself. Give yourself some things to work on this year, and be really intentional about what those things are. So that way you have the time, the space and the energy all year long to really focus in on them. So that is everything I have for you today. My friends. I hope you love today’s episode.
