This process is my tried and true way to not only work towards your goals, but actually make them happen. No matter what your goal is, you can use this process to help you make those goals happen!

Maddy 0:08 Welcome to the living in sunshine podcast. If you don’t know who I am, my name is Maddy. And I am so excited to have you tuning in to our weekly podcast episodes, where we chat all the things from tips and tricks to funny stories from my life that have helped me to truly live in the sunshine. In this space, we are all about encouraging, inspiring and giving you the tough love that you need to hear sometimes to realize that you are totally made for more than what you currently have in life, and that you hold the power to make the changes that you need to level up and live your best self. So buckle up, grab some water, and let’s get into it. Good morning, my dudes and Happy Wednesday. And welcome back to the living in sunshine podcast. I am so excited that you are here for another brand new episode, whether you are a returning listener or a brand new listener, I’m just pumped that you’re here you know, and I want you to know that. So if you’ve listened to the first two episodes of January, you know that all month long, we are talking all about goals, goals that you can set for the new year how you should ditch your New Year’s resolutions because I think they’re a load of baloney. And today I’m going to be giving you a simple step by step process that you can follow to actually make your goals happen this year. So let’s go ahead and hop in to our episode. So this month, we are talking all about goals, right? What goals we could be setting all of that kind of stuff. But the thing is, is so often we don’t even know how to actually make our goals happen. And so we end up giving up on them. Before we even get started. Maybe we have a goal to finally open up a small business. Maybe it’s to make an extra $5,000 From our side hustle. Maybe it’s to completely uproot your life and become a nomad. Whatever it is, that’s awesome. But now what right we have the goal. Now where do we go? Well, my friends, here is my simple step by step process that will help you to actually achieve whatever goal you set for 2022. Step number one you guys is to break it down into small steps, I sure that you have a goal that’s really, really big. And when you have a really, really big goal, it’s going to seem really daunting until you take the time to break it down for yourself into smaller bites. It’s like tackling a huge dinner, you can’t shove all of the food in your mouth without choking, right. So if you try to shove all of these things into getting to your goals, you’re going to choke or freeze or give up or think it’s too hard or any of those things and then you’re never actually going to get to your goal. But if you take that dinner bite by bite, you’re going to be able to not only enjoy it a little bit more, but actually finish it without all of the hardship of like choking and your aunt giving you the hind leg and just feeling like you have no idea how to eat right. So same thing for your goals. When you take your really really big goal and my friends, I want you to dream and instead a goal that literally makes you want to crap yourself. Okay, pee your pants, crap your pants whatever you prefer, in your pants. Set the goal, make it scary, and then break it down step by step To make it more manageable, and you can break it down by time by steps in the process that you need to follow to get to it by small habit changes, whatever makes the most sense for your goal. Okay, so let me use the launch of the stickers on my Etsy shop me launching stickers in my Etsy shop, as an example. Okay, so for months now, literally, since probably August or September of 2021, I have wanted to launch physical products for my Etsy shop, specifically stickers. And this year, I also want to launch apparel. And the thing with that is, that’s a really big goal, selling physical products online is a huge thing. So instead of saying, I want to launch this goal, and then getting really overwhelmed by all of the things that go into that, I took it step by step. And so the first thing I needed to ask myself was, Okay, what does it even look like to sell physical products online on a platform like Etsy. And so for my goal, it made sense for me to break it down by steps in the process, right? I can’t just sell stickers on Etsy, without first knowing where my stickers are going to come from, or knowing how to design stickers, or knowing about shipping, or all of that stuff. I can’t jump to the end without first taking steps along the way. So for me, it made sense for me to break my goal down into steps in the process, maybe you have a goal to become a nurse, right? Maybe you’re a stay at home, mom, your kids are getting older, and you want to go back to school to become a nurse, that to me, that goal makes sense to break down into a timeline. Right? So when would you start school? When would you finish school? And along the way, what kind of exams or tests or classes would you have to schedule to get to that goal of becoming a nurse. So whatever your goal is, think about how you can break it up into smaller bites into smaller steps. And make it make sense for the goal, whether it’s baby steps, space and time, small steps based in and strategy and process or whatever makes sense for your goal. When you do this, when you break down your goal into smaller steps or into smaller bites, if we’re going along with the eating a giant meal metaphor, you won’t be so overwhelmed by it, and you won’t get stuck in that overwhelm, right? How often do you want to do something but it’s so big, and it’s so overwhelming, that you just completely freeze, right? It’s like a deer in headlights situation. When you break it down into smaller steps, that goal becomes more manageable, and you become more sustainable in your actions to actually making that goal happen. The second thing that you need to do to actually make your goals happen, you guys is to celebrate every small win along the way, this metaphor of getting a win getting a W is a big thing my husband and I have been talking about recently because life has just been hard. And whenever we get a W like we say get a win, get a W we celebrate that, like we make it a huge thing. And this is a huge thing in goal chasing that I can’t stress enough. Every small win, you get every small step you take into making the needle move in your goal and your dream or your business, whatever. Everything that you do to move that needle towards that goal, celebrate it, okay. And these celebrations can be small things like pat on yourself, or a quick trip to Starbucks, or doing something that just makes you happy. It can be something major, like a new workout outfit, or a piece of technology that is instrumental in what you’re doing. Whatever you decide, though, to celebrate, make it something that you will remember, okay, and this is important, because I want you to be able to say, when you actually get to that goal, you can look back on the process and say, oh my gosh, I had such a great time and getting here. It was less stressful, it was more enjoyable. And I made myself and my wins a huge priority. And I celebrated myself along the way. What this does, what celebrating our own wins does is it makes our goal chasing more impactful, right, more memorable, more enjoyable. And that’s the whole point of this process. Oh goal is not worth chasing, if you’re not enjoying the process and enjoying the steps that you take along the way. And you guys we sometimes get so dead set and only feeling successful when we get to the end of the goal. How many times have you thought I’m not successful in my health journey because I haven’t lost all the weight that I want to lose yet. But then again, you still had to go to Target last weekend and buy smaller pants, you guys, that’s a win. That’s a huge win. celebrate those things. If you hold yourself back from feeling successful along the way, you’re going to want to give up on that goal. But instead, when you take the time to celebrate those small wins, you’re going to feel better about the progress and the work that you’re doing. And you’re going to feel more motivated to continue moving forward towards that goal. So don’t hold yourself back from saying you’ll be successful. Don’t hold yourself back from giving yourself a pat on the back and telling yourself that you’re doing a good job. But at any point in the process, if you need a physical like in real life hype chat for me, please shoot me a DM so I can send you that hype. Okay, I’m with you every single step of the way. But I also can’t tell you we’re doing a good job every single day, right? So I want you to do that for yourself. And to celebrate every single small wins along the way to continue to project yourself towards that goal. The third step in the process is going to be kind of a hard pill to swallow for some that but it’s still really important. And that is to accept the fact that goals take longer than you think, okay, newsflash, my friend, people rarely bolded, italicized, underlined, 40 point font rarely get to their goals in the exact timeframe that they think they will. Whether you’re wanting to start a family and become a nurse, work in network marketing, or build a successful podcast, almost nothing. Almost nothing ever happens the way that you plan it out. And my friends, the first thing to do to be sustainable in your goals, is letting go of the pressure to achieve a specific goal by a specific day. Because when you release that pressure from yourself, when you take that pressure off your shoulders off your back, you’re going to have way more fun and don’t get my words all twisted, okay? I’m not saying don’t set a deadline because I’m a firm believer in having a deadline and working to meet those deadlines in your goal chasing. What I’m saying is don’t make yourself feel bad, or like an absolute failure or break your back. If you don’t meet them every single time that you set them. It’s okay if you fall behind in getting to your goals all of my tight three Enya Graham’s, listen to me again. It’s okay to not achieve a goal in the initial timeframe that you set for yourself, you have not failed, you have not screwed up, you are not giving up, you are just giving yourself a new deadline. The most important thing about this step you guys is accepting it early on. Because when you fail to meet that deadline, when you fail to have that goal happen by the time you’re 30, whatever it might be, right? I know, for me, I have a goal to pay off all these student loans. By the time I’m 30, I’m really working to make that happen. I don’t know if it will or not. But if it doesn’t happen, I’m not going to break my back and tell myself that I’m an absolute failure. And I wasted all this time. Instead, I’m going to give myself a new timeline, a new deadline, and reassessing what I did to see if I can continue on in a more intentional and impactful way. So let go of that pressure to have this goal happen within a specific timeframe that you probably might deep down no isn’t going to happen. Because when you release yourself of that pressure, you’re going to enjoy the process of getting there way more. And the fourth step in the process to actually making your goals happen this year, you guys is to instills a belief in yourself that you can make this goal happen with time, consistency, and focus. Believe me when I say this, no one and I mean, no one can believe in your goals and your dreams more than you do. No one can want them more than you do. No one can work for them harder than you do. No one can believe in them no more than you do. Okay? Why? Because if you don’t believe in them, with your heart and your soul and your booth and your but you’re never going to work towards them ever, and it will never happen period. No one can want a goal more than you do. No one can want a dream or a vision or this massive thing that you want for yourself more than you do. And I say this because I had this wake up call just recently with my husband and I’m going to get really real with you for a second I have been super stressed out about finances my income specifically and how much money I’m currently making because if you guys know I quit my job back in October without really a backup plan. And that’s been really stressful between the repairs that we had to do back on our house in December to fix the issues that we’ve been having in our house that needed to happen and other investments that I’ve been making in my business the fact that I don’t have a reliable income anymore makes me stressed Okay, stress to where I was asking myself and asking my husband you know, am I am I selfish for not having a real job that pays our bills? Am I Am I you know, silly for not doing this should I be getting real job love about all these things, right? And he said that and he’s Lucas, my husband, God loves him. His response to me literally, like left me without words like jaw dropped my drop. What the heck? Oh my god. I didn’t know how to respond. He said to me, Maddie, I am so proud of you for the work that you do, and the business that you’re building. I believe in everything that you’re doing and know that you are building something amazing right now and that the income is probably going to come later. You are not selfish, you are just in the beginning stages of building a business that I believe in. And I believe in everything that you’re doing Mike drop, he believes in me more than I believe in myself, right. And let me just say this self doubt is normal. questioning yourself is normal. But this small conversation really woke me up to the fact that I have to believe in myself and my dreams, more than anyone else. Because if I don’t believe in them, not only will no one else either, but they’re never going to happen. If you don’t have the belief that you can actually make something happen. It’s not going to happen. I don’t know if anyone has ever watched a James Charles video, but he says not with that attitude, right. So if you have the attitude of this isn’t going to work, I don’t believe in this. It’s too hard. yatta yatta yatta it’s never gonna work. Well, not with that attitude, it’s never gonna work. You have to have more belief in your goals than anyone else in the room, because you have to be the one to show up for them. My friends, I truly believe that with hard work, consistency, and enough time, any goal can happen, anything can happen. And when you pair those things, with a dead set believe you become unstoppable and making them a reality. You guys, I want you to keep these things in mind when you want to quit or give up or throw your hands up and cry and break down and all of those things because when you have these, this process this, these steps to follow, you are unstoppable. And I want you to re listen to this episode whenever you need this reminder that you can do whatever is on your heart and whatever is in your mind. And my friends, that is all I have for you today a simple step by step process that you can follow all year long to make your goal your reality. My hope is that you can follow these steps and wash repeat, rinse, do it again and do it again and do it again until your goals are your real life.
